Exactly, what debate...

This is a mandatory meeting, you attend or you are fired.

Period.

yup. I hired someone, gave them the hours expected to work and they showed up and said “I can’t come in at 9 tomorrow. I have a brunch I do with friends EVERY WEEK”

ya, well we open at 9 every day of the week, just like I told you when I hired you. So enjoy your brunch tomorrow you can go home now

“but the brunch is tomorrow”

ya well you were let go today.

Employee was salaried, so yes they were getting paid.

the meeting is a quarterly affair so the employee is responsible to be there.

Be there or report to HR when you do get in, they will have some paperwork for you to sign.

even having to talk about this gives me little hope for gen Z as a whole. They are lazy, self absorbed, entitled, overspending, toxic personalities

It depends on normal work hours. If she works 9-5 then she’s not obligated to attend an 8 o’clock meeting. Would I attend the meeting? Heck ya, but I’d leave at 4 o’clock if I was an hourly employee. If I were a salaried then all bets are off and you get to the meeting no matter what.

Is it his regular work hours?

When I worked graves I darned well wasn’t going to come in unpaid for a 9:00 meeting. They could either pay me O.T. or replace me.

Businesses do not own employees, Lincoln freed the slaves.

*NOBODY* owes any employer a single thing except to work in an ethical and productive manner while on the clock.
