Tucker Carlson mocked for bewilderment over Russian shopping carts that include common feature
Mirror UK ^ | 2/16/2024 | Yelena Mandenberg

Tucker Carlson aired a video of him at a Russian grocery store, appearing to fawn over everything from the shopping cart mechanism to the price of groceries - skipping over the part where US dollars stretch a lot farther than the ruble.

In the video, Carlson was amazed to see that the shopping carts in front of the supermarket required people to put in a ruble coin, which they'd then get back when the cart was returned.

Carlson acted like he'd never seen this feature before - despite it being pretty common across the US and most of Europe.

He then explained to his audience how it works, quipping, "There's an incentive to return it... and not just take it to your homeless encampment."

He was quickly criticized for the comment about the shopping carts, and users on X made fun of him for looking like he'd never been in a store before.

Tucker didn’t bother to do any research.

Why would anyone bother to research a grocery store shopping cart policy that one didn't know existed?

How would one magically know it even existed?

Aldi is a discount store and people with money probably have never set foot in it.

It is not common in the US but it is in the UK. The incentive is for the users to return them to a single point rather than leaving them scattered all over the car park.

The largest common coin in the US is the quarter which is not as big an incentive to return the cart.

They don’t do it to stop cart theft. They do it to lower wages. Aldi’s are located in many rich areas.

I think the rich need to stop going to stores with journalists. The three biggest idiots to do this were GHW Bush, Dr. Oz and now Tucker. Two lost their elections for being out of touch and I don’t think this gains Tucker many more supporters. Stop doing things to impress when it doesn’t work. Or at least learn about shopping needs of working families before going to the store and how they navigate it.

Tucker should do a montage of all the leftist outlet attacks on him for the interview.

That is the real story; how the groupthink mindguards are all coordinated.

Rush was great at the montage. Think he invented it.

“Here’s your enemy people, right here.”

Good to know about Walmart.

If you wanna save the $13/month, you can buy Walmart groceries in the app and schedule curbside pickup. Other than the occasional substitutions, it’s easy and it’s free. And you don’t have to step foot in the store.

Not that it matters one bit, but this isn’t very common.

The more important takeaway is that this obviously entry level urinalist has her marching orders and that is to attack Carlson. She’s only able to bite around the ankles but she’s doing her masters bidding.

its actually NOT common in the US. I remember being surprised by it when I first saw it in Europe in the early 1990s.

I’m sure it exists somewhere in the US, but I’ve lived in 8 different states and have never seen it on this side of the pond.

Yet their lots are clean as a whistle. Guarantee SOMEBODY is grabbing an unreturned cart and snagging your quarter if you don’t. Maybe even me!

“One more thing. This is similar to when GHWB was surprised at the scanners at a grocery store, which the MSM loved because they could make him look out of touch with the little man, unlike BJ Clinton, who was and still is more out of touch.”

That was a fake story about Bush.

Y’all, I think the point is that this isn’t some Putin-inspired innovation to deal with the homeless. Quibble with “common” all you want. Fact is, this feature is all over Europe and in over 2300 locations in about 40 U.S. States. If Tucker lives in FL, I can almost guarantee his limo has driven by some. There are over 200 Aldi locations in Florida. That’s enough to know they exist and aren’t some Russian innovation.

Weis Markets here in PA was testing it in a few stores last year. The jury is still out if they will implement it in all their stores. BJ’s Warehouse club stores (similar to COSTCO) used to have this; in fact, it was the first store where I ever saw this and that was in the late 80’s. Lidl had this until recently.

Tucker Carlson has a home in a fairly rule area of the country so I doubt that he can avoid shopping at the grocery store. A big line the article is that most of America has coin secured shopping carts. I’ve been in grocery stores are over this country and I’ve never seen or used one myself.
