A major cellphone outage affected users across the US early Thursday — even stopping some police departments from being able to receive 911 calls.
AT&T seemed to have experienced the largest number of issues, with nearly 32,000 reports at around 4:30 a.m., according to data from DownDetector, which tracks outages by collating status reports from sources including user-submitted errors on its platform.
More than 800 service outages were also reported on T-Mobile and Verizon, although a spokesperson for the latter put it down to users reporting problems trying to call people with other services.
Others reported issues on smaller carriers including Boost Mobile, Consumer Cellular and Straight Talk Wireless.
The problems extended from New York, Boston and Atlanta on the East Coast to Houston, Dallas, Los Angeles, Seattle and San Francisco — and even to Montreal in Canada.
Several police stations throughout the country even warned that people might be unable to call to report emergencies.
However, many AT&T users say they are stuck in “SOS Mode” in which they can only reach emergency services.
A spokesperson for Verizon, however, told The Post its network is “operating as normal” and the issues seem to arise when customers try to call or text those using another telecommunications company.
Many expressed their frustration with the ongoing outages, as the providers have yet to issue any statements.
“AT&T is literally one of the most expensive phone companies, and y’all have the audacity to have a service outage for hours with zero updates being given to your customers?” one customer wrote on X.
“Y’all got one hour to wrap this s–t up! Fix it and fix it now.

“Hmmm, were I to be engineering a massive outage, I’d test first.”
Jillions of military age men pouring thru the boder, water testing cell outages. Something, or things, are coming and the last thing they will be is unexpected. At least by us Freepers.
Magical sunspots affecting only one carrier?
***even stopping some police departments from being able to receive 911 calls.***
When seconds count the police are...well, somewhere! “All lines are busy. Please call Back Later!”
Solar flare one theory
>>An X level (Major) solar flare occurred at 3:32 a.m. CT this morning, 5 minutes later reports of mobile data outages started coming in to Downdetector.
>>Make that 2:32 a.m.

“China is making moves or will Russia be blamed for this?“
My bet is on the good ol’ US government.. “testing..testing…”
Having read this story, I called a nearby friend to see if my phone was working. It is working, and so is that of my friend, fortunately. What a scary story, and I lay any problems squarely at the feet of the traitor Biden and his collection of absolute freaks who hate America.
My ADT security panel went off early this morning. ADT told me it’s the network issue. In the Houston area.
SPOT ON!, Although my service from AT&T has steadily degraded over the past year and now I am definitely switching providers.
DD is “Self-Reported” by Verizon customers calling AT&T peeps. (And not getting thru.),
Probably have a bunch of checkbox engineers trying to figure out what’s going on. That in itself could be what caused the issue.
Cricket Wireless is AT&T they are owned by AT&T, it’s basically a discounted brand of AT&T
Just tested my friends Att, working in Los Angeles.
Good. Knock out those obnoxious Consumer Cellular TV ads while you’re at it! ;)
We have US Cellular which is our only option. We are very rural, though can easily see FIVE cell towers from our farm and have to be outside on the front porch or the back deck to get coverage most of the time.
It’s a TREAT when you can take or make a call sitting at the kitchen table; all the ‘modern conveniences’ are ours, LOL!
Depends on what is causing the outage, at some point all wired and cellular calls are transported over the same network, it’s how you access that network that’s different, one is wired and obviously one cellular.
If the core of the network is down, then both networks will be down.
Austin Texas robbed at an ATM can’t call 911. Oh wait that’s the policy. If you’re robbed at an ATM don’t call 911 call 311 to file a report. Just make sure you have the address where it happened and how much was taken from you. And have a nice day. What country are we even living in now?
This is a huge wake up call. People had better be prepared for this kind of stuff. ATM card doesn’t work? Grid down? Low on fuel?
It’s been down in my upper Midwest city.
What’s weird is if i turn my wife off on my iPad i still have LTE and can text my wife
But what use is a land line if you are the only one that has it???
