Ive read of people in the US losing their disability checks after doing similar things.

I seem to remember a story in the 1990s about an FDNY firefighter on “permanent disability” due to job-related injuries losing his settlement and even being prosecuted for fraud after he was caught winning an “Iron Man” triathlon.
He might have been able to keep his disability check if he had just claimed he was retarded.

A NYC fireman out on disability was [contemporaneously] hired by a Broward/Fort Lauderdale fire department. Double-dipping pensions by now.
(About 25 years ago. Newspapers.com may recover the news story).
