CDC braces for shortage after tetanus shot discontinued

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is urging doctors to conserve shots of a kind of tetanus vaccine, as the agency braces for a potential shortage of those shots this year.

Doctors should switch from using the so-called Td vaccine – the immunization that protects against both tetanus and diphtheria infections – to giving the broader Tdap vaccine instead whenever possible, the CDC now says. In addition to tetanus and diphtheria, the Tdap vaccine also offers protection against pertussis, the infection also known as "whooping cough."

This year's shortage risk stems from a decision by nonprofit vaccinemaker MassBiologics to discontinue production of its Td vaccine, branded as TdVax.

Supplies of the shot will likely run low as soon as this summer from the shot's distributor Grifols, the CDC told a panel of its vaccine advisers Wednesday. "It's available through June, through sometime in June, but it won't be available beyond that," said Jeanne Santoli of the CDC's Immunization Services Division.

Why did MassBiologics stop making TdVax?

Use of the Td vaccine has declined in recent decades, as more doctors have switched to stocking the newer but often pricier Tdap vaccines now on the market.

Sarah Wiley, a spokesperson for MassBiologics, said the "similar vaccines have led to a reduction in demand" for TdVax

Wiley said the decision to stop making the shots was unrelated to a previous disruption to TdVax supply through last year, after the company faced scrutiny from the Food and Drug Administration over some lots they had manufactured.

It sounds to me like they are trying force us onto a different vaccine.

Better not be an mRNA platform “vaccine.”

Yes, the more expensive version.

Just another way to kill people off.

Tetanus can be pretty deadly.

My bet is that’s exactly what they’re wanting to do. I’d like to see just how many CDC employees are financially involved with big pharma in some manner.

More evidence of the alliance of big corporations and big government. If Trump is elected he should aggressively enforce anti-trust laws. Markets work best when there are many competitors, not so well when oligopolies ally with government to squeeze out competitors and guarantee market domination.

When I was a kid, they used to give very large doses of tetanus vaccine, the idea being that it would protect for life. Seemed to work for me, but I finally got talked into another tetanus shot five or six years ago, my first in about 50 years.

I’ve been on the 10 year plan ever since I can remember. Of course might have sometimes skipped a few years until I noticed I cut myself on something.

I recently went to urgent care where they wanted me to get a booster. Since my distrust of the medical establishment has grown, I chose not to. I did some research. Before the tetanus shot, a whopping 300 cases a year were recorded.

Since then it’s still 50 cases. Both statistical rounding errors. In other words, I’m not getting the shot.

I got a tetanus shot a few years ago in response to a dog bite. I Called my doctor’s office, and they said to go to a WalMart for the injection. My arm was sore for a few afterward.

My mother was convinced that I was going to start dieing from rabies and that we should immediately leave for the Mayo Clinic. I had to get the pharmacists from the WalMart to convince my mother that I didn’t have rabies.

Who needs a tetanus shot with antibiotics?

at this point in time I would not take a vaccine of any name. The medical system has made themselves questionable. How do we trust them for any treatment? We can’t trust what is in the vaccine.

Recently my dog bit me and tore my lower eyelid (my fault). Went to the ER and they gave me a Tetanus shot. They billed me $200 just for the shot.

About 100 years ago, Chesterton observed, “Too much capitalism does not mean too many capitalists, but too few capitalists.”

Something happened to me a while back after getting a tetanus shot.

Let’s just say between the adverse reaction I experienced, not life threatening but very unpleasant, and the health system’s complete lack of interest in getting to the bottom of what happened, I will never get another vaxx.

We had a severe flood at our river cabin in 2017. The current flushed the septic system right into the house.
We had to completely gut the place and junk most of the furniture, then sanitize and refinish the inside.
Everyone had to get tetanus boosters and we were thankful to get them.

No longer under patent, most likely.

We are so lucky that FR has experts in cell biology defending us against the scourge of demon mRNA.

Now if we could just convince our own cells to quit generating mRNA every single time that they make a protein we could be entirely mRNA free.
