Oh well to the greeny weenies, fossil fuels are the ultimate evil.
My bet is on “broke down”.
This is one thing I hate about the so-called "green movement". It almost always results in more control by the political class, who don't care about efficiency. The engineers, when having to please the political class instead of consumers, don't have to make things work effectively. They have to make sure their devices pass the red-tape bureaucracy and that's all.
This is amazing …
Nothing in the article about climate change causing wind patterns to change or something
I might have to print this out and frame it
This tidbit is interesting, though:
Some nations use a system known as ‘Constraint Payments.’That's just another government subsidy in disguise and given a harmless sounding name. It's like the government paying farmers to NOT produce crops. This method ensures that even if a power producer is requested to shut down by the National Grid, they are still compensated for the energy they might have created if they had not been forced to shut down. This offers a consistent cash stream for the generator while also improving the country’s energy security.
These economic distortions perfectly demonstrate why intermittent and unreliable wind is a loser.
Some days the sun don’t shine and the wind don’t blow
Remedy: Attach dynamite and light fuse. Haul remains to the dump where it belonged all along.
Stupid windmills.
On Big Island (Hawai’i) there is a crew that keeps useless windmills that aren’t even attached to the grid turning just so the government can say “LOOK, we have wind power.” I haven’t seen them for a while but they were rusty and the oil had spilled all over the ground.
FEELZ
The turbines around here start spinning at 12mph and turn off at 35mph. They always go the same speed. The blades are feathered like a planes propeller to hold the blades still in high wind.
Windmills for electric power has always been a crappy idea from the crappy idea people in govt. It wastes billions so those crappy idea people are fine with it.
Three Bears: not to strong, not to weak, they’re designed for a range of wind speeds that is “just right”
I like the constraint payment idea. I call the National Grid Czar and say I want to be compensated for energy I could have produced but didn’t because they didn’t want it. I don’t tell them I don’t actually own a windmill. Profit!
Somebody ought to tell the Germans, before they cut down 250,000 trees to put up wind turbines.
No mention of torque problems and fatigue from fight the strong winds?
Since they are all grouped together I do not think it is because "the wind is too strong".
