The CIA is a foreign intelligence service. Yes, it does operate inside the US on occasion, but that is not its primary role. The idea that the CIA would be the agency searching for bombs at a DC demonstration ought to raise eyebrows. That’s a police function. Maybe we live in a police state. Maybe.

Exactly. It is my understanding that the CIA is not allowed to engage in domestic operations. If it requires so, they are supposed to bring in the FBI or other entities.
Granted, that doesn't explain why they visited my father in the late early 2000s to discuss me, a patriot. They talked to my father on several occasions but never to me. I would have honestly answered any of their questions. It's always bugged me. I still don't know the reason for it. (any of you out there in the CIA ... yes... I know are here, I'd love to have that nagging oddity explained at some point.)

Or maybe the CIA’s mission isn’t what they say it is. Such as making video animations of a plane crash over US waters for consumption by US viewers, namely, TWA800.
