Well, after the one-child policy, many Chinese killed their newborn daughters because boys were more desirable (i.e.: No dowry, don’t cost money, can inherit money and property), so there is a HUGE shortage of women for marriage.
It’s gotten to the point that women are being kidnapped and forced into marriage (so, raped). Not a whole lot is being done about it, you can imagine.
The other thing is, even though there are so fewer women, and therefore there is “increased demand,” yet more women are declining to get married.
