Sometimes I long for the life of a tradwife. Then I remember it’s a reactionary fantasy; The reality is so much darker (“anti-vaxxing, decrying contraception and woke liberal modernity”)

…But I’m fascinated by tradwife life, why it appeals and what it’s selling.

It’s less the campy, colour-saturated, submissive 50s-housewife cosplay (if you aren’t familiar, check out @esteecwilliams and prepare to hear that “God designed two genders for different purposes”). That feels like fantasy or fetish, designed, I suspect, to appeal mainly to men. (Some of the women who yearn to surrender to a male provider could be, as one astute TikToker put it, “mistaking wanting to be a trad wife with wanting universal basic income.”)

But the other kind – families forging a wholesome, homesteading existence – taps into a longing for things it’s objectively reasonable to long for. It’s stuff I long for: a slower, simpler, more intentional way of life, making do and mending, a hands-on relationship with nature, the seasons and food production. …They make it look so lovely, this 19th-century drudgery. The reality of homesteading is precarious and not pretty: … But the gorgeous aesthetics can also lull you into not noticing, what – apart from sourdough starter kit – it’s selling.

At the extreme margins, that’s white supremacy: a fringe of tradwives enthusiastically repopulating the world with blond babies. Others sit along what’s been called the “crunchy to alt-right pipeline”, where granola-fuelled enthusiasm for organic farming, fermentation or home schooling (none of which – obviously! – is inherently alt-right) elides into anti-vaxxing, decrying contraception and woke liberal modernity.

But even when it’s just a homesteader saying feminism makes them sad or suggesting scrubbing dishes glorifies God, it tends to celebrate a narrow vision of life: white, straight, Christian, cleaving to traditional gender roles and family structures.

“They same applies to men, by the way, only with slightly less negative consequences on the downside“

Nah. It always evens out. Men hate to be alone more than women. In general. Ironically

Middle aged men without families are a very sad lot

I read this, and my first thought was "What the heck is tradwife?" Then I read further, and got it: "Traditional Wife".

Then I read further, and found that it means "white supremacy; enthusiastically repopulating the world with blond babies; enthusiasm for organic farming, fermentation or home schooling; anti-vaxxing, decrying contraception".

I saw that she intentionally put "decrying woke liberal modernity" at the end.

Well, both "wokeness" and "liberal modernity" are fully deserving of ridicule and rejection by a person of any sex.

Normally, I can sniff out a Leftist article, often in the first sentence, if not the first few words of that first sentence. In the excerpt it was:

"...…But I’m fascinated by tradwife life, why it appeals and what it’s selling. It’s less the campy, colour-saturated, submissive 50s-housewife cosplay...

While my radar went up in that first sentence by the use of the unfamiliar term "tradwife", I wanted to be open-minded. But by the second sentence the "campy, color-saturated, submissive..." made me decide to look no further.

I doubt that this jackass Leftist ever lived in that time frame, and if she did, she sure as Hell didn't know my mom and millions like her, that were neither campy, color-saturated, nor submissive.

I have never categorized the desire for better, more uncomplicated, or homegrown food as “crunchy”. I think anyone who does is missing the important point.

“She lives in Brussels with her husband and two sons.”

Did she make her ‘husband’ change his name, like Nikki Haley did?

Articles like this (in The Guardian) would be fun to read for a condescending chuckle if there weren’t so many cosmopolitan types actually swallowing this stuff hook, line, and sinker.

“Tradwife” — had to look that one up.

It just means normal.

I figured out early in my career that I could easily be replaced at my job.

But if my family lost me ... widowed husband, motherless children, parents who outlived a daughter ... that would be an epic loss.

So that’s what I tried to focus on. And when Hubs and I were farming together I helped all that I could but there were some jobs on the farm I just couldn’t do because I wasn’t another guy. I took care of the kids, the house, the yard, the garden, somewhat the cars, and kept farm finances because he was getting up at 4 AM consistently and working 6 days a week.

It sounds like a “trad wife” gig but it was simply reality.

--- " 'Gender' is a language construct, handy for the French and Latin languages. When used as a substitute sex in a human person, is either a jocularity or a blunder (Fowler, Modern English Language Usage)"

Moreover German has three genders for nouns. Die, der and das.

When was the last time one of these "bright young things" ever as as a non-binary for the third gender. Or even better, third kind of genitalia. Even those nutty non-binary want some kind of binary part with which to "play."

I vote for either 1) a jocular blunder, or 2) a blundering jocularity.

A gal of my acquaintance uses a crude expression about this sort of liberal female — “a hard-off.” Still makes me chuckle, from when first she used the phrase.

"Our schools and colleges are laying a guilt trip on those young people whose parents are productive, and who are raising them to be productive. What is amazing is how easily this has been done, largely just by replacing the word "achievement" by with the word "privilege". - Thomas Sowell

They may hate to be alone only until they have been with a woman awhile. Then they relaize they are better off not having them around all the time and really only need them for very short periods. Women on the other hand need men far more, for security, for doing things they can’t or don’t want to do, for giving them attention and validation, for financial support.

Only colleges can produce such stupidity.

Where is her diatribe against every other “race” and culture where women stay home? Her head would explode knowing Malaysia has a “good wives” club that teaches young women how to take care of their husbands and family.
