Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill into law on Friday mandating annual skin cancer screenings for more than 300,000 state employees and their families at no out-of-pocket cost.

The law, sponsored by Rep. Ralph Massullo, a dermatologist by trade, stipulates that the state group health insurance plan managed by the Division of State Group Insurance must cover skin cancer screenings conducted by dermatologists, physician assistants, or advanced registered practice nurses, without requiring deductibles, copayments, coinsurance, or any other form of cost-sharing.

Press conference at 11.

And between you and fudgepacker_c, we get DeSantis threads every single day.

"Why does DeSantis still do daily press conferences! Here's another thread about it!"

Rent free, bro.

Insane!

It already takes six months to get an appointment with a Dermatologist.

300,000 screenings?

That will result in at least 30,000 pointless negative biopsies.

It will result in hundreds of border line melanoma diagnoses that would have self-remitted or never caused a problem if left alone.

The number of practicing dermatologists is deliberately constrained by federal funding. The shortage is deliberate because most people who visit a dermatologist have a cosmetic concern, not a medical concern.

The 20% of patients who have real skin cancer risks are forced to compete against the 80% who have limited or no risk factors.

Every time some movie actor has a suspicious mole or growth removed, they go on TV and tell all their fans to make an appointment with a dermatologist for a skin check.

Completely crazy!

Guess what? Skin cancer is even more expensive. This is a good thing. But typical Debbie downer on everything. Gets exhausting hearing from miserable people.

In this case, it is likely to save the state money...early detection and removal of cancerous or precancerous cells is much less costly.

Apparently DeSantis sent this bill to his own desk.

You keep destroying your credibility, Troll-boy. Your inability to spell properly reminds me of uneducated unintelligent inner-city morons who have less than zero command of the English language.

Then you drivel on with your democrat party talking points spoon-fed to you by your masters in the Deep State.

On the whole, your contributions to this forum detract from its value.

The health insurance company is paying for it. My health insurance company pays 100% on skin cancer screenings, colonoscopies, and other cancer tests. The reason is that it is far cheaper to treat those kinds of cancers if they are caught early. The insurance company AND the patient benefit from early detection.

Free bennies for government employees, but not for you. Some people are more equal than other people. I object to this. They are paid for by taxpayers generally, so the general public should benefit.
