Some people didn't/don't like this song for one reason or another. Not sure why. It's a damn near masterpiece imo.
The piano intro at the beginning.... just love it.
As the story goes, Stewart languished as a minor act for years until he happened to room with Paul Simon during a tour in England and Simon gave him some tips on how to write a hit song. Right after this, Stewart struck it big with this tune. He also has joked that this one song (sales and royalties) has kept him financially secure all these years.
Just as Calvin does at my home. He's named for President Coolidge, who also had blue eyes.
Anyone who likes history needs to listen to and understand the complete lyrics to two Al Stewart songs, Roads to Moscow and On the Border.

One of my favorites, and Al Stewart is one of my all-time favorite singers.
It is an absolute masterpiece. So is Time Passages, and several others Al Stewart wrote. I literally do not think highly of those who can not appreciate this song.
Yay! From a comment in the Wikipedia article, I figured out how to get at an archived version of Roads to Moscow that has great historic pictures set to the music.
Me, too.
Time Passages is better.
You’re very sensitive, ma’am.
“I would rather be drawn and quartered than listen to that song”.
Wow.
Eighteen is remarkable. You’ll probably adopt another cat.
When my last cat Andy died, I didn’t know I’d ever love another kitty. But there she was in a cage at a street fair. She and her litter had been abandoned and taken to Higher Ground sanctuary run by a wealthy woman who rescues everything including abandoned horses and unwanted hogs.
No unlovable cats. Just sent $$$ to local shelter to help feed newborn kittens. No-kill shelter, great place. Definitely about to be the Season of the Cats.
some years back i asked my nephew why the white kids his age all liked rap music so much...his answer made me think. He said the songs from my generation simply made no sense lyrically...songs like “Stairway to Heaven”..Yes-”i seen all good people” etc...well this is one of those songs. And ya know, he wasn’t wrong. Rap was stripped down “street talk” and thats why they liked it. Gotta admit, some of “my songs” simply make zero sense.
I like that song. 🐱
Absolutely! One of the best. Saw Al Stewart at a college concert in 1977. I’ve always loved his music. Year of the Cat? Best part is when that sax comes in.
+1
> clowns who think they can do a better job of mixing
mixing and mastering are at different stages of creating the media
mastering is what happens after the mix is finished
Levitan's Road of Exiles
Her brother (a pure bred blue point) lived to 21. Died a few years ago. She is a rescue - separated from her Mom before her eyes opened. She has always been a little girl - only 5 lbs. now. Her kidneys are failing, but that’s what happens.
I’ll add that the interview process w/ siamese rescue was harder than any job interview I’ve ever had - to get them to give me that kitten 18 years ago. Wouldn’t want it any other way. I beat out 30 other applicants, and everyone won.
