I Lean more and more towards this. One is a two-door post (pretty rare) and the other is just a basic 4 door, but has a VERY muscly 318 in it. We also have a brand new slant-6 that we bought in the late eighties that we never got around to putting in to the 2 door. My hubby is quite the gear head, has multiple roll around tool chests, ALL of them full of tools, plus an engine lift, etc. We even have a spray booth in our shop for a quick paint job if needed! I was all for selling them a couple years ago, now not so much.
Well, I guess this is one time I’m glad I’m a cheap-skate.. My newest machine is a 2016 Nissan Frontier. The smartest thing on it is a back-up camera with a sensor that don’t seem to work...and my wife setting next to me who can’t even find the door handle....so, I guess I’m safe.....for the moment...maybe. :(

Oh man, I have seen this time and time again. Once you pull that trigger to buy one on credit it becomes a perpetual cycle and you never do get solvent.
The newest two generations have just made a lifestyle out of this. They are basically going to lease/rent a vehicle for a monthly credit payment all their lives and never actually get one paid off.
And part of it is their own fault for participating in our current “throw away economy”. I have seen them trade a car in for a newer one just because the one they have needs a new set of tires. Their thought is “the payments a month are the same, but I get a new set of tires for free”.
No you are not getting a new set of tires for free... Too even think so is the stupidity dealers are hoping for. lol
But that is the current mindset of this current throw away economy we live in. Even many our age are falling for this same trap and mindset and trade in for a new one every year or two.

And what you just sold your soul for is now worth 50% less than what you will be paying for it as soon as your drive it off the lot. Truly not a very wise investment at all...
I am a total techtard, but I said at the time about the Cash for Clunkers that it was a way to control our movements.
Both of those Darts are excellent cars and I’ll bet they are paid off. I have restored a few myself over the years. Both engines are bulletproof and you will be able to buy aftermarket parts pretty much forever for both. All the slant six engines I had got 25 miles to the gallon on the highway, yet they were strong enough to easily pull a trailer with them and still get 16-18 MPG. A newer car could not do much better in the real world. And here is the best part, in almost every state as I understand it, they are emissions exempt because of the age even in California. :)

Absolutely, anything older! I am currently restoring a 78 1 ton 4x4 Chevy van and converting it to a camper van. I have it getting 19 miles to the gallon on the highway which is great for what it is. The way the world is going I may have to live in it soon...
Looking back, if I was able to bring my Nova with me to Texas, I wouldn't have had to go into debt, then into further debt, then into even further debt. But my mother selling it without my consent is drove it all, well, that and a freeloading now ex-wife.
I'm retired now, due to Long Covid, and my age, 63. A lot of my debt has been paid or, in the case of private student loans, been forgiven due to my disability. My federal student loans disappeared last summer without so much as a letter, but that's ok. It's gone. I'm hoping now that if/when my VA and SSA disability claims come back approved, I'll be able to pay off the remainder and finally be completely debt free.
Then it's off to a secluded location in the mountains somewhere to finish my days. LOL
Our 2005 Honda Odyssey has 225,000 miles on it. It’s a great vehicle and don’t look forward to getting rid of it.

For that matter all cars with GPS where you can remotely locate them have this issue.

You and I are the same age and I plan to do the same thing soon. I have always lived a modest lifestyle and been self employed most of my life so I was always pretty much solvent.
Never bought anything on credit except one parcel of land when we first moved to Az from Ca to make a new start. But I paid that off in just a couple years and was solvent again.
Always saved up and bought everything with cash since to stay solvent. Got myself fairly secure buying and flipping properties aside from my regular business. One of my purchases I kept and still have is a ten acre parcel on top of a mountain next to the Grand Canyon and it is paid for.
I have it cached with everything I will need and ready to go Galt. Soon... Very soon...

And a car is like “arm candy” to some. Both just shiny status toys.
The Priority is all about status symbol toys and aesthetics over practicality and function. Humans are like crows, they waste a whole lot of time and effort collecting shiny things to dress up their nests...
350? I’m not a mechanic, but I’m a journeyman electrician, I should be able to figure some stuff out, and I have a lot of tools.

Yes you probably can as long as they don’t make it illegal to do so. They will probably have tech to tell when they do not have a connection with your vehicle.
I wish I had resources you got. Me, I got just me, and very few possessions. I have enough belongings that will fit nicely into a one bedroom home. And honestly, that’s enough. I don’t need a lot of stuff and only require what I need to survive day to day. So whenever my finances get figured out, and I find a nice to move to, I’ll get everything packed and move, hopefully to a nice secluded quiet place.
