ROSE, Idaho — The man who was shot and killed by an 85-year-old woman during a home invasion had parked at least a mile away from her home, walked, and then broke in through a window with a screwdriver. The incident happened on March 13 off 134 West and 600 North. Bingham County prosecuting attorney Ryan Jolley described the home where it all happened as a secluded area surrounded by fields.

“Even so, my choice is the 45 Colt...with the same attention to proper ammo. I have several of each and like both, but the .45 Colt is my choice.”

I have The Judge with three 45 colt rounds and two 410. If that doesn’t stop them, they can’t be stopped or it was my time to go.

“No argument there because in his case she was in an area with sensible law enforcement. I was guilty of thinking in terms of prosecutors who would rasher get a conviction than seek justice.”

And the problem is... things are changing so fast in this country now... and not for the better... that you never know if or when your area is going to be “fundamentally transformed”. I’m seeing things here in Texas that I never thought I’d see. The last bastions are under major attack.

Most likely double action although with a little practice you can cock a revolver by rubbing the hammer on whatever is in reach.

However one should not miss the point that you can not bring a weapon up to eye level if a chair is attached, I suspect that he would have been dead on the first shot if she could have.

For various reasons, even though it is only good for very close contact events, I suggest that everyone who practices self defense shooting should learn to hit center mass with the weapon at various unusual positions..waist high, chest high lying down, etc......up to maybe 5 yards.

With a little practice you can become very good at hitting the critical zone.

Head shots are not the best, thick bone could send the bullet around and out without penetrating the skull. Center mass is always your best choice.

What if they’re wearing kevlar? Criminals are getting more creative these days. With my luck, they’d have a vest on. I know. Go for the nads. That’s kind of “center”...lol.

Correct.

I almost added...state, county, town...and the written law is not as important as how the local prosecutor interprets it.

The reason e have so many lawyers is that so many people read the same text and swear that it means something that others do not see.

So how the locals interpret the law is a big deal.

You can’t know all of that in every jurisdiction you pass through, but you certainly better know for the area in which you live and work, as that is where you are the most likely to be attacked.

Excellent point. And I currently have no idea how that ‘interpretation’ would go in my area but I’m damned sure going to at least try to find out.

Thanks.

It does make sense to practice point shooting. It's a matter of muscle memory. As a teen I would practice with a Frisbee against a brick wall. I could nail the mortar line very consistently from 10 yards. The same can be done with a handgun at an outdoor range. Some of the laser dot trainers are useful for "dry fire" practice at home.

I was trained at Front Sight.
“If you have to shoot, shoot to kill”
“Be the FIRST to call 911”
“Be standing there with your weapon on the ground and hands up”

If you’re lucky enough to ‘be standing’. I think if you’re a female, the burden of “proof” that you were in the right is automatically less stringent than if you were a male. At least, that’s my possibly faulty concept. But yeah, a male... especially a white male... these days, really has to do things “by the book” to CYA.

All good, simple steps - easy to remember under stress. I’ll add:

Don't talk to the police, tell them only - “I was in fear for my life; I shot to end the threat”.

Demand medical attention - “I want to go to the ER, my heart is pounding”.

Contact your attorney and STFU. -Time in ER allows your adrenaline levels to normalize so you can make a statement to LE with guidance from council.

Don’t talk to hospital staff about your situation or circumstances. Remember, STFU! Your attorney should be your voice from this point forward.

Sad it’s this way in our “Brave, New World”, but too many innocent people have their lives ruined defending themselves.

Both my wife and I legally carry in a hostile state. I remind her often: “The punishment is the process”. You have to defend yourself twice.

Yeah, grossly lacking key details on this case in almost all media reports.

ICYMI at source:

He said it's unclear how many times Jenneiahn was shot by Condon's 9 mm pistol.

"There were at least 11 holes in her…gunshot holes in her," Jolley said. "I am not positive how many of those were through-and-through shots. I don't believe that it was 11 separate gunshots that hit her."

He added Condon had emptied his entire magazine.

"… The firearm that he shot her with had the slide locked back and had an empty magazine in it that was found," Jolley said. "He shot until his firearm was empty."

and I found this elsewhere:

The elderly woman fell to the floor of her home and remained handcuffed to the chair for approximately 10 hours.

Her disabled son eventually came upstairs later in the morning and gave her a phone to call 911.

In an interview with Local News 8, Jolley said Condon had previously interacted with Jenneiahn at her former pawn shop and gun range, and likely targeted her.

"Based on some of the statements from her brother, as well as what we know from the scene, it appears that he picked her specifically because he knew her and knew that she likely would have valuables in her home," Jolley told the news outlet.

Oddly, the only comments on her condition I could locate today:

Officials also tell us that she is currently in a recovery center and is expected to be OK, which at her age, the prosecuting attorney said is nothing short of incredible.
and

EastIdahoNews.com has reached out to her but has not been able to get in contact with her. We have confirmed Jenneiahn has been released from EIRMC and is recovering.
