one thing outstandingly obvious in the response to the covid 19 qwap is how easily Americans allowed themselves to become slaves to the state. the state will not forget the sheer compliance of the people at large and will make EVERY effort to use this compliance in the future as a tool to wrest control FROM the People. you just know they will.
Yes, we will allow it because we have made elected officials TOO powerful. Imagine the audacity of Gov. Andy Cuomo MANDATING that when you walk up to a bar to grab a drink you must first buy a cuomo meatball or he'll take the establishments liquor license, seriously? Yep, that's what this loser did in NYS, as well as the nursing home debacle.

You don’t seem to quite get the idea. “Herd immunity” is poorly named. It should actually be referred to as herd resistance.
If viruses didn’t mutate, a vaccine based approach would be equally effective to herd resistance. But they do mutate, very rapidly.
Those who were previously infected have a window where they can’t catch the disease again, AND after that window they tend to be less likely to catch the disease and are contagious for a shorter period of time.
This approach is superior to a vaccination based approach because vaccines only create immune response to a specific protein, whereas those exposed to a live virus gain immune response to ALL of the proteins in the virus.
The vaccine did buy time during the early stages of the pandemic when the strain was the most deadly. The optimal approach would have been to focus vaccination on those most at risk, isolate them from the general population, and wait for the virus to mutate to a much less deadly strain, with the recognition that everyone eventually gets exposed to some variant.
Hindsight is always 20/20, so at this point the main lesson is to plan accordingly for future pandemics.

You are preaching to the choir. We didn’t get any shots and boycotted all shops and venues requiring masks and distancing BS. We had essential items delivered. We didn’t travel and stopped going out for entertainment and dinner.
We wore masks a few times to attend mandatory doctor appointments and to visit my mother in hospice. We were fortunate enough to be retired.. others were not so fortunate.
My point was not to suggest that people should submit or comply - my point was that what the government did was indeed force - even though not at gunpoint - it was still force and that should not be forgotten or forgiven.
I can tell that you are proud of your noncompliance - and you should be - I am too - but we can feel proud without minimizing the impossible choices that others were forced to make.
When someone gets raped, for example, and we think they should have fought back harder - maybe it’s time to have a little humility and consider that unless we are in their shoes, we do not really know what they faced.
I agree that the vast majority of people were weak and compliant - but we should not paint with too broad a brush - there was force involved. People should not be forced to make the choices some were forced to make.
There was one article on ivermectin on FR around the end of March or early April. At that time I was reading hundreds of articles and thousands or posts on FR about COVID. From a susceptibility to scabies after living in Afghanistan, I knew about ivermectin and even had a tube of horse paste from about 2018. Not knowing at that time how safe ivermectin is, I preferred the external treatment of permethrin, which worked. (I paid $20 for a 1% OTC Kix, but later got a 10% animal solution I could dilute to 2% with skin cream).
So I was watching to see if ivermectin would work. It wasn’t until around September that more articles were on FR about ivermectin and it began to be recognized as a prophylactic and cure.
And yes, from then on the media and government lied about its safety and potential effectiveness.
Compliance has never stopped despots.

I think the above pretty much says it all. 80%+ of the population of this former Republic are sheep who will cheer on public executions of their fellow citizens for not being "compliant" if the TV tells them to.
There has always been a core of totalitarians even here on FR. I recall being roundly criticized for not supporting the "Patriot" act.
Voluntary mask compliance was 75-80%, the expectation was 25-30%.
The once great nation of rugged individualists has become a bastion of conformity approaching Japanese levels.
The top down largely uniform education system has created a nation of group think on both sides. The endless zero sum equivocation when the truth is often in the middle is an extremely toxic byproduct of the mess.
