I thought Kia &/or Hyundai was most known for that kind of stuff.??? Thinking way back before recalls were being made, how many recalls might have been made on some older vehicles before such things were common? There were problems common to some of the older vehicles, such as inadequate drum brakes on many or most cars.

I’m going back a long way. 50s to 80s. Time has flown by.

This article is from a huge used auto retailer in NH. They buy lease turn ins. Some are fleet vehicles like rental cars.
So, they sell large volumes of these type of low mileage vehicles.

Aerostar was a truck frame. Shared the Ranger frame. Explorers up to 2000/01 had the same base frame too.

Yep, they are. I have had a 1973 Bronco since 1978. It still runs excellent and I take it on occasional trips to the Gulf Coast. It’s simple and easy to work on if something goes wrong. It even has the dealer installed under the dash air conditioner that still works.

“Ford recalls over 450,000 vehicles due to loss of drive power Ford has issued a recall for Bronco Sport SUVs and Maverick compact pickup trucks made between 2022-2024”

nothing new with fords: 35 years ago, we were driving a rental ford up to Mount Evans, the highest paved road in the U.S. ... before we could get very high, the ford just suddenly turned itself off and was completely dead for no reason that we could discern ... being in the middle of nowhere, all we could do was wait a while and hope whatever was wrong would automagically fix itself ... waiting worked ... i’ll never own a ford ...

All car quality has gone down significantly over the last 10-15 years when using the defects per 100 cars metric. ALL Brands even Toyota / Lexus. Certainly some of it is all the safety electronics that has been added.

“JD Power Initial quality data”

2024 Initial quality index, problems per 100 cars by brand
Lexus 135
Toyota 147

2013 Initial quality index, problems per 100 cars by brand

Speaking of fires, it appears that spontaneous EV combustion isn’t an issue.

They call it a “sport” model with a 1.5 liter engine? That’s downright insulting to consumers.
