Smoke machines, same as you'd use on gophers only bigger...

Yes. Some Russians found a tunnel and then used compressed air to burrow further . . . past a Ukraine position.

And this is before Ukraine’s air force is revived with a fresh supply of Western fighter planes that will make the lives of Russian CAS pilots much more complicated.

Yeah, some Ukie clown cheerleader told me ALL ABOUT the F-16s back in the last week of August 2023.

"They’ve just been given more F-16s than they had MiG-29s and Su-27s"

Been 7 months. Whey da feck are dem F-16s, Ukie clown cheerleader?

Ukraine ping

wildcard_redneck: [If the Ukrainian army is so mighty then we can quit sending the money, right?]

Even in the Stone Age, a man with a club generally beat an unarmed man. Once ranged weapons came into the picture, the gap widened into a chasm. And in the gunpowder and missile age, it’s clear grit only goes so far. That’s why we supply Ukraine. They have the courage to fight on even though the odds are stacked against them. What they need is weaponry that their far smaller economy cannot afford.

When Germany invaded Russia in 1941, the Russian empire’s population was almost 4x Germany’s. Russia had two continents worth of natural resources. It shouldn’t have needed a plug nickel from the US to ward off Germany. And yet it did. For each year of the war, the US handed to Russia roughly the current US defense budget, about 3% of the 1941 US economy. Among other things, it represented 400,000 jeeps and trucks, 14,000 planes and 13,000 tanks.

https://www.rferl.org/a/did-us-lend-lease-aid-tip-the-balance-in-soviet-fight-against-nazi-germany/30599486.html

And even with this unprecedented - before and since - gush of American cash and equipment to the Russians, they spent the first two years of the war fighting within their own territory.

Have we used it in Iraq or Afghanistan?

I have never seen anything like that before in any media. It is brilliant, I am just surprised something so cool would be so entirely unknown.

I could see artillery or small devices. I have never seen dedicated trucks that massive which open the spigot and can make an entire battlefield obscured like that. That is fantastic.

“I heard that the Russians also had a map which showed an old tunnel that ran under the town.”

It was an old storm drain, 42” in diameter, much of it damaged and clogged, 2 miles long. They sent 150 troops through it, right under the strongest defense placements in Ukraine and popped up in a residential area and plucked off the Ukrainians from behind. The war mappers were like: “What the hell just happened?”

Something about these smoke dischargers makes me think they are easy to spot.

A bit like contrails(or chem trails lol) on aircraft, unless the smoke trucks are engulfed in smoke and drones are not equipped with infrared sights, these things will have to be right at the front and would seem relatively easy to pick off moving to the front and while pushing smoke.

Plenty of armored vehicles never make it to zero line, and I doubt these things have any armor. Maybe they can weld some corrugated roofing to them lol

Would seem artillery delivered smoke would be more effective

I don’t know how something so ordinary and routine and used for so many generations could be considered unknown.

Using smoke, and smoke vehicles is routine and has been used by both Ukraine and Russia and was used by American forces in recent wars and is used in current NATO exercises.

You have even been reading about their use, for instance when Russia used smoke trucks last year at the Crimean (Kerch) Bridge.

Look at this year old article from the UK.
“UK MoD says Russia is failing to effectively use smoke camouflage in combat operations”

Russia is creating a stalemate and a meat grinder. Putin knows that Ukraine is running out of men and that his army is now just as strong, if not stronger, than when this whole thing started. All Russia has to do is sit there.

The underlying question is why would Ukraine send battle damage assessment (BDA) reports to Russia?

Everyone enjoys their cellphone features and some love them to death.

A recent video of Russians showing their secret base camp in a live video...and suddenly it went sideways in a ring of fire.

I can state from personal experience, that you will not hear the round that gets you except for mortar rounds where you might hear it coming out of the tube.

Calling this garbage out for what it is, spam and Russian propaganda isn’t weak. It doesn’t belong on our forum.

The quest for social media likes is getting out of hand, trumping self-preservation among some of the knuckleheads posting this. Part of the problem is the incessant boredom while waiting for something to happen. NCOs need to be collecting phones from these people, but the grunts need something to fill the down time that’s not spent digging or being shelled. So laissez faire reigns until they deal with a near miss or take significant losses from enemy shelling.

The weirdest instance is the incident with the Russian drone operators whose social media posts betrayed their location. They, of all people, should have known better. SMH. Inside too many grizzled, dirt-encrusted grunts is a social media addicted teenage girl.

Nothing I’ve seen indicates you have a clue.

—”Part of the problem is the incessant boredom “

An old cliche: “Combat is months of boredom punctuated by moments of extreme terror.”

IIRC from WWI, today’s tempo is much quicker.
