Kristi Noem is correct….. but isn’t being correct often the same as being politically incorrect?
The linked video is mine. It shows the result of a wild dog attack on livestock. Happened last Thursday.
Most dogs don’t get the chance. Most figd likely can’t reach s cow’s ears. The dynamic between bovines and canines is ancient. If a dog gets them running, it has the advantage. Ever walked through a pasture of cows with a dog that was afraid of cows? It’ll try to keep you between itself and the cows. Cows will pick up on this, and approach you and the dog, then lower their heads and try to get the dog. It can be potentially dangerous.
Drying up fast here in Alabama, and hot. 90 degrees yesterday. Today about the same. At least it ain’t humid.... yet.

My dad had a dog he trained and trained to herd cows but was only good at attacking them and spreading them out. He was dispatched with the same rifle we used to shoot coyotes. Left him where he fell. Within a few days there wasn’t anything left but a collar.
The older I get, the more humidity bothers me.
However, wasn't Noem's complaint about her dog, was not that it was vicious, but rather that it wouldn't train as a bird dog? Or something to that affect?
So I'm not sure what this post has to do with Noem in the first place.
That’s why we would carry a rifle in the pickup.
Any stray dog, single or pack, was fair game. Calves, cows, sheep, horses or goats had to be protected.
Our border collie didn’t mess with livestock.
At 6 yrs old, I knew where the rifles and shot guns were. And why.
Noem shooting this dog doesn't bother me. She had her reasons and I'm sure she took care of the issue as humanely as she could.
What troubles me is the totally unforced error she made in talking about it.
The dog in question KILLED a bunch of her friend’s chickens.
She paid for the damage her dog did, and dispatched the dog humanely.
The dog didn’t train well, and was a HUGE liability in the field. That was a small factor in the decision to put the animal down.
The chicken killing ALONE is the main reason and more than enough to justify the dog’s elimination.

A lot of people are unwilling to get rid of a bad dog.
Responsible dog owners are.
I never had a bad dog for long. They met quick ends.
There are plenty of dogs no need to put up with a bad one.
I also have to say, I was not inclined to support her as a candidate, and thought conservatism would be best served by her staying in the governorship.
She is an attractive woman with physical assets, and as a man, I need to go the extra yard and ensure I don’t feel any enthusiasm for her on the basis of her physical attributes.
I know that sounds shallow, but I am primarily a visual man, and as such, I have to guard against such things by thinking about them and, if need be, take them into account. If someone views me as shallow, I will just have to accept that as part of the process, and try not to hold it against people.
But it does make me quite angry and more likely to support her with the same dynamic that is in play with Trump.
I get that. I don’t know if I would make that same decision in the same way, but to many working farms or ranches, an animal needs to have a purpose if it isn’t fully a pet in the standard sense, and I cannot put myself in their shoes.
So, I won’t judge them.
I’ve owned cattle and dogs for close to half a century; I’ve never had one of my dogs attack any of the cattle; to the contrary they have generally been protective of the herd.
My pit used to let the cats sleep on him. Cats not in the pack would be advised not to come in the yard.
My granddad had generations of cattle dogs. Coonhounds. Momma dog would train the puppies how to do their jobs.

Absolutely not. It’s obvious that you know which part of your body will instruct your hand when it pulls the lever. Many of us around here joke and kid around, but the majority of the people at FR only want what’s best for a free and righteous America. I, for one, will make cynical and (sometimes LOL) distasteful comments, but I’ll be on the front lines where needed.

My neighbor here in NE TX has instructed me to cap any coyotes I can get a clean shot at.
