Unfortunately, the medical field is replete with megalomaniacs who really believe they are better than everyone else and irreplaceable. I worked with a doctor like this back in the 1980’s. He treated his staff like chattel.
My daughter is a registered nurse. She and her fellow nurses know who the prima donna’s are and who are not.
Usually these are not the best physicians - though they likely think they are. There is absolutely not enough time in life to be a great physician and also be a self-promoting megalomaniac. Most of the megalomaniacs essentially suck - which is why you see so many pinhead clinicians in academics.
It would be interesting to know what percentage of Doctors are narcissists.
