WNBA superstar A’ja Wilson said the elephant in the room when it comes to the enormous popularity of Caitlin Clark is the fact that she is a White woman.
Clark is by far the most heralded basketball player since Larry Bird entered the NBA in 1979 alongside Earvin “Magic” Johnson. But when you juxtapose Clark’s resumé with Wilson’s, the contrast is startling and begs the question as to why Clark already has a signature Nike shoe deal and Wilson did not until this past week.

Wilson is upset Clark got a big shoe deal and she did not, she is upset Clark is a great athlete. The thing is the WNBA needs Clark to try and sell their product, if she can help with popularity then everyone in the league benefits and maybe the pay can be increased from the average $75,000 these players make.
But I can see that Mythical Racism is going to destroy this opportunity and if the NBA finally pulls the plug on their subsidizing the league then they are through. Their TV contract is only worth $60 Million and unless they get behind Clark and try to make the product sellable that TV money is not going to increase in dime in the future. They are barely hanging on on ESPN with terrible ratings.
Really, how is it they can pay her that much?
