C.S.A. by Abram Joseph Ryan (1838-1886)
Do we weep for the heroes who died for us,
Who living were true and tried for us,
And dying sleep side by side for us;
The Martyr-band
That hallowed our land
With the blood they shed in a tide for us?
Ah! fearless on many a day for us
They stood in front of the fray for us,
And held the foeman at bay for us;
And tears should fall
Fore'er o'er all
Who fell while wearing the Gray for us.
How many a glorious name for us,
How many a story of fame for us
They left: Would it not be a blame for us
If their memories part
From our land and heart,
And a wrong to them, and shame for us?
No, no, no, they were brave for us,
And bright were the lives they gave for us;
The land they struggled to save for us
Will not forget
Its warriors yet
Who sleep in so many a grave for us.
On many and many a plain for us
Their blood poured down all in vain for us,
Red, rich, and pure, like a rain for us;
They bleed -- we weep,
We live -- they sleep,
"All lost," the only refrain for us.
But their memories e'er shall remain for us,
And their names, bright names, without stain for us;
The glory they won shall not wane for us,
In legend and lay
Our heroes in Gray
Shall forever live over again for us.

I believe I shall try and stay out of that fight! ;^)

Stand sir, it's like argueing with Liberals , it doesn't matter what you say , they will believe as they choose , no matter what. I say just let um be . We are very content in our celebration of good Southern / CSA ancestry . That's enough.
Frankly I am happy that they learn and know and appreciate their Union ancestry , those that actually have any that is.
The true diversity of genuine old time Americana , so unlike the modern day pulp fiction that is being pushed by the Lib/leftist advocates and immigrants....I say just let um be , and ask that they let us be , and that ends that :^)
a Rebel soldier to Gen. Robert E. Lee shortly after Gettysburg:
"General Lee ! We'll fight um until Hell freezes over for you Sir ! Then we'll fight um on the ice!....."

General Order Number 11 , issued by General US Grant :
"expels all Jews from this Department because they are a class
violating every regulation of trade established by the Treasury Department"
I would like to know a little more about this information if
anyone knows.
in the last 16 hours my e-mail box has been flooded with FILTH, OBSCENITY-ridden attacks & outright LIES.
sorry, but i won't "lay down & take it".
fwiw, i fought the klan-idiots for 20 years or so & SOME of the HATERS that sent that FILTH to me make that scum of the earth look good/kind.
sadly, they "know not & know not that they know not".

"lay down & take it".
nah , that ain't what ahm sayin xactly ....
more like 'laugh and walk away '
Let um stew if'n they want to , but don't play the game.
Many people are master baiters and love to jus git ya goin!
They git off on it , I can see it....
Ya know 'they' feel the same way us too ; that we'll never listen,
and yet they never stop pounding....it's a futile dance.
We all arrive at what is right in our own hearts and that's what counts . If ur sure , jus be solid with that and f***
what anyone else thinks .
I find the only way I can make it thru this life is to lay lots of 'stuff' down...(not lay down myself!) The more 'stuff' we carry , the heavier is our weight of burden and the shorter and less enjoyable our lives. We are only as free as what we can lay down and git rid of ;^)
It ain't about accumulatin more 'stuff' ! Although some think so .....
Mr. Stand , this is jus my view on thangs , ah don't mean to preach at cha !...if'n this were the 'old days' I'd be passin ya the loaded and primed musket up to the rock wall
over which you wuz shootin....count on it ;^)
same way about us too
"THE JACKET OF GRAY by Caroline Augusta Ball born 1825
Fold it up carefully, lay it aside;
Tenderly touch it, look on it with pride;
For dear to our hearts must it be evermore,
The jacket of gray our loved soldier-boy wore."
Thanks so much for finding the author of the poem. In my book, I used the first four lines of the poem, which was in Judith McGuire's diary(Civil War). I don't believe the diary contained any author at all, however, I just labelled it, "anonymous". Didn't want to give anybody any excuse to accuse me of plagarism. Anyway, I thought it was just an excellent poem that was just waiting for me to put it in my book! Only used four lines of it though. Not too many people would stay awake for an entire poem-including myself.
Having several such jackets of grey myself , I love this poem
and highly respect what the coats once, and still stand for.
Happy New Year Darla !

Don't remember running across this one, but it doesn't surprise me at all. There seemed to be lots of little inuendos in different writings, along these lines. Couldn't take the time to decipher them, as it would lead me astray from the purpose of writing my book. And actually, I could care less about Grant, so that was even more of a reason... I'd also bet, along with most other potentially damning information, it was eliminated from the record. It's really quite sad that, "The Winners" decided to do this. It's really annoying how they deleted all their bad stuff, and left the Confederates holding it all, and looking like just a bunch of hoodlums who deserved what they got. Although, Lee was quite protective of Jewish soldiers, which seemed odd, only in the sense that something seemed, "out of place." It was like, the bit of protectiveness was just added from nowhere. But if there were some form of persecution going on, Lee's behavior would make perfect sense.
about the issue of Jews in the Civil War ;
to be fair , I do know that Jewish merchants were roundly condemned in Vicksburg MS., where they were widely seen as taking advantage of the siege to drive up prices for their sutlers goods to astronomical rates. To the point that certain CSA soldiers were known to comment that it would be good if the Yanks knocked the entire city down to spite the Jews that infested it with their ingratitude .
That all sounds quite familiar regarding Vicksburg. That particular comment even sounds familiar. But I didn't get the impression it was anything more than what the blockade runners would do if they saw a chance to make a buck.
Vicksburg...That was such a sad, sad situation. Read that it was probably more important than Gettysburg, which got all the hype. My thoughts were that Grant had his evil little mind a workin' overtime when he decided Gettysburg would be a good cover for him to nail Vicksburg. Well, still can't figure out why anyone could even remotely think Gettysburg was so terribly important. Vicksburg was it...The Yankees even said so. Even though I don't like what they did, they still knew getting the Mississppi waterway under control was their lunch ticket.
How about we ban all flags of former communist regimes? After all communism killed millions more than slavery. While we're at it let's ban all flags from arab countries since they STILL persecute Christians and women. Oh, and let's not forget to ban any symbol of the NAACP and the Nation of Islam for their bigoted racist views.
History is over. Learn from it and move on!
Thanks for reminding me. Knew this, but WILLINGLY neglected to face the facts. Oh well, whatever...
