There is / was a great lesson in Gettysburg for all future US military commanders and even the national leadership:
To consider well the advice of the Division commanders or Corps commanders , those that are feet-in-the-field. To not be too self assured by 'visions' or prescience , and to not so ponderously follow the guesses of the civilian politicians in military affairs. Although in the later matter , it was luck alone for the CSA that Meade did not follow upon Lincoln's wishes after the retreat from Gettysburg, otherwise the Army of Northern Virgina would have been crushed again ,and probably finally , against the Potomac fords , the river being in near flood at the time...
I believe in good generals , and wish these day that we had
a Patton or a MacArthur. But when the awe and respect turns to almost a cult worship upon the man and it goes to the mans head ,therein lies a great danger. Again , Robert E. Lee should have well listened to Longstreet (and others)
on those fateful days of July '63...The 'old Warhorse' was right.

Does it ever occur to you that the present crop of virulent and vehemenent Yankees , as typified by those at the New York Times (etc)and how forward in their attack and hatred of President Bush they are , because he happens to be a good Southern man ? With good Southern values....seems pretty clear to me what's going on here.

Yes. I totally agree. This is exactly what is happening. The exact same states(with some newcomers) who attacked the South during the Civil War, are now attacking Bush. Now the question is, "Why didn't they learn their lesson? They even won the first conflict... Which means that winning cannot be the point, and I guess they're not about to learn a lesson. They just like conflict for the sake of conflict-it's what makes the sad and sorry bunch feel alive. They've been bred that way. The cowardliness is shining through, like there's no tomorrow. So, history has it that the South was the troublemaker in the Civil War. But the idiots are showing the country otherwise.

i was in a hurry to get back to work, so i didn't do more than skim your response, BUT you are 150% CORRECT!

we southrons will eventually win. southrons are PATIENT. (time is on our side!)

first will come Le Republique de Quebecois, then Los Estados Unidos de Azatlan will be established & then we southrons can (peacefully) form a NEW & MUCH IMPROVED southron republic.

I was told on another thread that there are actually people who do not believe the Civil War ever occurred. Is this really true? I have never heard of such a thing... Any and all answers are welcome.
