Brooklyn Museum Art Controversy

In 1999 Giuliani threatened to cut off city funding for the Brooklyn Museum if the museum did not remove a number of works in an exhibit entitled “Sensation: Young British Artists from the Saatchi Collection.” One work in particular, The Holy Virgin Mary by Turner Prize winning-artist Chris Ofili (a Catholic himself), featured the Virgin Mary next to elephant dung and female genitalia pictures. It was targeted as being offensive to some in the Christian community in New York, leading the artist to comment that "This is all about control."

It's a sad sad day on FR when I have to scroll past a dozen preemptive jokes about what others are going to say to find some real debate (I gave up and just hit reply; I don't think it's possible on these threads anymore).

We all know who you're all talking about. You say the same things over and over to the same people over and over, often accusing them of saying the same things over and over. That said, I'm pretty sure that's a no-no around civilized parts such as these: personal attacks and Zinging-not-Pinging.

I know we're all older than 4 (my daughter's age), and even she isn't this goofy when she thinks I'm wrong!

Although I have no strong attachment at present, I must say that Rudy is the genuine article.

He saved New York by cleaning it up and making it a place where people were not molested on the streets. He then rose to the challenge of 9/11.

People here like to take shots at him to advance their own agenda but the narrow agendas in this primary will not prevail.
