For anyone inclined to believe Polarik's claim that Snopes ever endorsed the belief that Obama was born in Kenya, here's the breakdown.

As I shared before, here is the direct link to the Snopes page that Polarik is talking about:

That's not an article that Polarik is talking about, or anything where the site has assigned a true/false label to. It's simply a thread posted on the Snopes urban legend forums.

(And despite Polarik's posturing as if he excavated the page in question, it's an active thread that appears at the top of the forum page. And it was the site that Jim Geraghty linked to over two years ago.)

Go browse the forums. Notice how the threads started by "snopes" tend to start with "Comment:", just like the thread Polarik is pointing at. That's because all those posts are just the Snopes owner reposting e-mails he's received. He's not taking a position on their validity, and he doesn't tend to express any of his own opinion in the "Comment:" posts. He's simply posting correspondence he receives as the operator of an urban legend website. And surprise: the operator of an urban legend website receives a lot of emails containing urban legends.

Heck, in this case, it should be evident that snopes didn't write the post, but rather cut-and-pasted it, because the text wraps in short lines like an e-mail.

Whether you have doubts about Snopes' political leanings is irrelevant; all that matters here is recognizing context. It's just the republishing of reader-submitted e-mail. A quick look at other threads on the Snopes boards will show that the "Comment:" posts, like the one Polarik is relying on, is simply not an endorsement of belief or factual validity.

Well done by Ms. Taitz. I am very surprised that earlier passport information isn't available; the first pages are from July of 1965, and indicate that the first included document is an application for renewal, not an original application for a passport.

The bland sentence "Many passport applications and other non-vital records from that period were destroyed during the 1980s in accordance with guidance from the General Services Administration" in the accompanying letter rings huge red flags for me. That doesn't sound like any federal mode of operation that I am familiar with: simply destroying original applications rather than at least trying to make some sort of photographic archive is flat bizarre and raises immediate questions about the integrity of the State Department's operations.

Ms. Taitz has received some significant information from a FOIA inquiry regarding Ms. Soetoro's passport information. The State Department is claiming that all passport information prior to 1965 has been lost.

Dr. Ron Polland found an article from the online self proclaimed “fact checkers” ....”SNOPES.com in an April 21, 2008” article published by SNOPES saying ...

This was back in time over 2 years ago when SNOPES.com was on Hillary Clinton’s side in their coverage during the Democratic Party primary campaign and was not actively engaged in covering up and playing tag team partner with FactCheck.org and other sites who are now active protecting and covering up Obama’s lies about his nativity narrative like they are now with their so called “fact check” articles. What evidence did SNOPES.com have in April 2008, or access to people with evidence, and when exactly did they learn it and from whom ... in the way of hospital documents and witnesses saying Obama was born in Kenya ... such that they could state that it will take time to prove it but “Obama is not a legitimate U.S. Citizen” and “He has Citizenship established in Kenya, where he is recorded as an Arab-American”? Are they now at this time committing misprision of a felony by not revealing these hospital documents and naming the witnesses and the sources that proved to SNOPES.com their statement that “Obama is not a legitimate U.S. Citizen” as reported in their article on April 21, 2008, and that “Barack Obama born in Kenya” ?

Someday I hope you come clean as to why you post the stuff you do.

My suspicion is that you have an intellectual curiosity about how people learn and select information.
