NRC says new South Texas nukes don't pass ownership test
reuters ^ | Wed Dec 14 | Scott DiSavino

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) said it would suspend review of the non-foreign ownership requirements of the proposed new reactors at South Texas because Japanese multinational Toshiba effectively controls the project.

("Suspend review" = drop dead in place.)

I’m thinking this is the Toshiba Small Reactors Project, called “4S”, (Super Safe, Small and Simple) that can run for 30 years without refueling, and with just minimal staffing.

It’s designed to provide power to small, remote cities, without the need for long transmission lines.

Toshiba has been trying to build one of these, FOR FREE, in remote Galena Alaska as a test project, but the Obama Administration has been stonewalling it, HARD.

They currently pay like .35-.40 perKwh for elecricity, because oil has to be brought in by barge to power the plant.

The Toshiba Plant could lower costs to the .10-.13PKwH range.

REASON?
Why, it’s not owned by fascist crony GE, of course.

That is great news but we need to keep what is running operating safely for about 30 more years to we could get a bunch of those on-line.

This whole NRC ruling/report is another attempt at Obama's base or greenies to kill off our our energy sector as we know it. If they/he can kill off our nuke plants, along with our oil they get all they hoped for.

A return to the messed up fantasy ideals of walden pond. If obama wins this election, along with replacing 2 justices on SCOTUS he will have hit the grand prize of liberalism.

Then we are done as the country as we knew it, or as the founders intended it to be.

There are a lot of small reactors on the board right now, from four or five companies, that fit the low maintenance, or in a few circumstances, no maintenance concept, and about every one of them is back ordered.

Some are sealed, with the idea that they just be put in a concrete pit with a concrete lid, with just a power out connector with a heavy circuit breaker, and a monitoring cable output sticking through the lid. This type can provide enough power for a mixed use, 5 square mile urban area.

Others are more oriented to industrial use, so need crew service and operation, because their power demand is so variable.
