The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) said it would suspend review of the non-foreign ownership requirements of the proposed new reactors at South Texas because Japanese multinational Toshiba effectively controls the project.
("Suspend review" = drop dead in place.)

Rab can but wounder.
I’m thinking this is the Toshiba Small Reactors Project, called “4S”, (Super Safe, Small and Simple) that can run for 30 years without refueling, and with just minimal staffing.
It’s designed to provide power to small, remote cities, without the need for long transmission lines.
Toshiba has been trying to build one of these, FOR FREE, in remote Galena Alaska as a test project, but the Obama Administration has been stonewalling it, HARD.
They currently pay like .35-.40 perKwh for elecricity, because oil has to be brought in by barge to power the plant.
The Toshiba Plant could lower costs to the .10-.13PKwH range.
REASON?
Why, it’s not owned by fascist crony GE, of course.
There are a lot of small reactors on the board right now, from four or five companies, that fit the low maintenance, or in a few circumstances, no maintenance concept, and about every one of them is back ordered.
Some are sealed, with the idea that they just be put in a concrete pit with a concrete lid, with just a power out connector with a heavy circuit breaker, and a monitoring cable output sticking through the lid. This type can provide enough power for a mixed use, 5 square mile urban area.
Others are more oriented to industrial use, so need crew service and operation, because their power demand is so variable.
