When this was alleged against Obama (and Herr Clinton before him) that elections would be suspended, yada yada yada, we were all told that it was moonbat conspiracy talk.

Same with the pre-election talk of persons possibly hacking the election.

Stalinists lie. Always

Don’t ask them for consistency.

“How can a “leading historian” at Yale be dumber than a sack of rocks?”

Yale professor...being dumber than a sack of rocks goes with that territory. Hard to find two healthy brain cells to rub together in the entire Ivy League.

From a place of enlightenment and learning to a safe haven for provincialism and ignorance of the wisdom of previous generations--is that what has happened to such institutions?

When one reads the writings of such unlearned university beings, one is reminded of what T. S. Eliot labeled a new provincialism: the provinciality of time, imprisoning them in their own little present moment, without any notion or consciousness of enduring ideas from the past. Some say it happened over recent decades as so-called “public” learning places stopped exposing children to ideas labeled as “religious.” By the act of censoring all ideas labeled by certain pressure groups and politicians as “religious” in origin, America’s youth were deprived of the right to examine competing ideas about life and to claim as their own the unique ideas that made liberty their birthright. The following excerpt is interesting:

Yale Founded to Fight LiberalismSee link.

It may come as surprise that when Yale University was founded on this day, October 16, 1701, it was by Congregationalist ministers unhappy with the growing liberalism at Harvard. It wasn't called Yale then, of course, but rather the Collegiate School. The ministers donated forty books and declared their objective, that "Youth may be instructed in the Arts and Sciences who through the blessing of God may be fitted for Publick employment both in Church and Civil State."

The huge campus of today, with over one hundred buildings was not conceived. In fact, the first classes were held in the residence of Rev. Abraham Pierson, its first rector. Not until 1745 was the school moved to New Haven and renamed Yale.

The name change was in honor of Elihu Yale, a successful merchant who made a donation of goods valued at $2,800. This was equivalent to the annual income of about fourteen medical doctors. The purpose of the renamed school was "To plant and under ye Divine blessing to propagate in this Wilderness, the blessed Reformed, Protestant Religion, in ye purity of its Order and Worship."

Students were required to "live religious, godly and blameless lives according to the rules of God's Word, diligently reading the Holy Scriptures, the fountain of light and truth; and constantly attend upon all the duties of religion, both in public and secret." Prayer was a requirement. Furthermore every student was instructed to "...consider the main end of his study to wit to know God in Jesus Christ" and "to lead a Godly, sober life."

For many years these high ideals were followed. One faculty member wrote around 1800, "It would delight your heart to see how the trophies of the cross are multiplied in this institution. Yale College is a little temple: prayer and praise seem to be the delight of the greater part of the students."

Snyder is conveniently ignoring the #NEVERTRUMP and #RESIST types who are actively attempting the overthrow of the American system. Authoritarians constitute the progressives and socialists.

Snyder’s book “Bloodlands” is a worthwhile read for those ignorant of what the Nazis and Soviets did to Eastern Europe. I suspect he has the usual leftist tendency to see “social democracy” as having no relation to Stalinism, and views as fascists anyone who is not far left politically. “Nationalists” are those who want to unfairly exclude foreigners from taking over, or pursue US interests in any way.

I’ll revisit after reading the article in depth, but I suspect Snyder is projecting exactly what the Left has on its mind for its own agenda. Democrats are posturing to remove Trump from office under the 25th Amendment as “insane”. A Democrat/Socialist nut just gunned down a Republican congressman. Democrats stir up violence at political events and use Nazi tactics in their ridiculous “antifa”. The government bureaucracy, including all the intel and security agencies, are controlled by leftist Democrats, news media, ditto. The Left likes Big Government and craves for government to dictate their health care and live their lives. The threat is all coming from the Left — the last thing conservatives want is massive government.

Historians rarely get the past right. When they make forays into future events, they really are out of their element.

Snyder basically thinks enough citizens and government actors have thought about the possibility and won't let it happen.

Oh, he's right about that. We the People have thought about lots of possibilities, and we definitely won't let "it" happen. What this laughably projecting "historian" is wrong about, is what the definition of the word "it" ends up being.

Unfortunately for Mr. Snyder—and the totalitarian Left in general—the "it" he's imagining isn't the "it" that the American people are eminently preparing for...

My theory is that soetoro was going to try this but blm, antifa and illegal invaders wouldn't put down the bong and get off the couch to give him the pretext.

All the polls said hillary was going to win anyway so he'd only need to offer her "guidance" as she continued to improve on his legacy.

Oh, and those bitter clingers, they might be a little more troublesome than first thought.

Exactly. And the #1 reason that most conservatives support Trump is because of his stated promises - and actions - to restore govt. institutions to their proper roles.

IMHO, short of some extraordinary, unforeseen circumstance (e.g. Barry declares himself the defacto President, and a number of liberal states follow his lead), short of this, were Trump to attempt to suspend/usurp his constitutional mandate, he would find himself very much alone.

How can someone who already runs the government attempt a coup?

I thought Democrats might try to pass a bill to make Obama president for life, but they lost the House and Senate after 2 years. If his presidency had been "successful" and the Democrats had maintained control of the House and Senate, I think they probably would have.

But Trump trying something like that? Not a chance.
