Traditionally, of course, African-Americans have been equated with apes in various ways.
But W. withstood 8 years of him being compared to a chimp. Trump gets compared to an orangutan. In truth, they all have some characteristics that could be evocative of other specific primates. in that context, such nastiness, though nasty, is clearly not race-specific.
Those comment are species-ist, rather than racist. /S
