Great point! Although that too bothers me a little bit - but not much anymore as I've gotten used to it.
I was brought up to give the flag honor and respect. But perhaps it might be better to look at how we behave around the flag in a similar fashion as we react to God. Sometimes it is quiet reverence and solemn honor. Other times it is with passionate praising and shouts of joy. And sometimes it is stripping off all your clothing like David did and dancing in the streets!
(Okay - maybe not that last one.)
