It's wrong to assume they are ignorant, they are just smart enough to know how ignorant the General Public is and what they can get away with saying, it doesn't mean they really believe what they are saying.

I go back and forth with this. Are they liars or stupid true believers? I think the answer lies somewhere in the middle. I think they are so used to lying so effortlessly that they start to believe their own BS.
If you put them to a polygraph and asked them some questions like whether they truly believe that global warming is real and that they have the power to save the planet or if they still believe Trump coordinated with Russia to win the election, most would say yes to both and pass.
