Sanctuary districts, "zen" zones, SEL and communication with families are among initiatives providing immigrant students with safety and resources amid an anti-immigrant political climate.
With massive U.S. Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids affecting Mississippi families yesterday, areas with large immigrant communities are going to be on high alert.
Following the seven raids that resulted in 680 arrests, Southern Poverty Law Center Attorney Julia Solórzano, with the SPLC’s Immigrant Justice Project, called the raids a part of an "ongoing war against immigrants," one that will have a significant effect on children in the school districts.
"These sorts of raids terrorize workers and their families," he said. "What’s more, today’s raids needlessly ripped parents from their children during the first week of school."

Every moment those kids sit in those classrooms, they are STEALING educational resources from OUR children. More teachers have to be hired, more textbooks-—bilingual ones-—have to be purchased to cater to them, bilingual personnel have to be hired, etc. So why should I care if they are “uncomfortable”? They are thieves. Do you care if you don’t put out the good china and silver for burglars in your home? I doubt it.
Aiding and abetting an illegal alien should be a crime; just as the individual who is an illegal alien is breaking the law. No grey area from I can see.
Someone needs to do an ad of an American being arrested for a crime and their child sobbing in fear. Then have a democrat yell “Oh stop whining, you dad is American, you don’t count”

Wait.. Why would immigrants have to be on high alert? If you are an immigrant you would be here legally the only people that would need to be on alert were those illegal aliens that came into our Country Illegally!

As the number of legal school age kids continues to drop, illegal students are keeping many schools open and employment for those employed by school districts.
Many schools have become free day care centers for illegal kids with free lunches, snacks after school, and monitored play grounds.
Who is paying for the above?
We know the answer to that.
Why would immigrants have to be on high alert?
Schools may help these innocent chillrin by instructing them on the use of an exit and pointing to the direction south.
True, but life has consequences, and they need to go home. They are invaders just as much is their parents are, they need to go home to their countries of origin. Get out of our classes, and out of the hospital, out of our schools, out of our communities.
In our Texas school district, 65% of students are illegal or have at least one illegal parent. Texas taxpayers have had to build new schools to accommodate the crowds of children who should not be here.
Teaching non-English speaking students is a burden, slowing down the education of citizen children. The Supreme Court ruling which demanded that our school districts pay to educate illegal foreign children should have been impeached.
This is the thing that bothers me. You could be in a county that has over 1,000 illegal kids in the system, and there are fifty teachers hired to meet that challenge....yet there is no federal or state tax being accomplished by their parents.
I don't think the writer has confused the two. I think it was intentional conflation of the two with intent on confusing the reader.
