Hannity used to follow the great Bob Grant in NYC during his early days. Whenever someone would call up Grant and mention Hannity, He would fain ignorance, “Who?” After acknowledging the name he would sneer, “Sean Hannity? I despise the man.” (Don’t know if he was playing; knowing Grant, probably not)

I’m pretty sure the Bob Grant quote you describe wasn’t even from Bob Grant himself. It was an epic rant that went like this: “All anyone wants to talk about is Sean Hannity! Hannity this! Hannity that! ... I DESPISE that name!”

It turns out it wasn’t even Grant who said it. WABC had an amazing, enigmatic host back then named Jay Diamond who could do some remarkable, dead-on impersonations of public figures. Bob Grant was one of his best impersonations, and he did that on-air rant one day on his own show. Hannity apparently got such a kick out of it that WABC began using it in promotional spots for his show. LOL.
