Abigail Kinoiki Kekaulike Kawananakoa, the so-called last Hawaiian princess whose lineage included the royal family that once ruled the islands and an Irish businessman who became one of Hawaii´s largest landowners, died on Sunday at the age of 96.
Kawananakoa died peacefully in her Honolulu home with her wife, Veronica Gail Kawananakoa, at her side.
'Abigail will be remembered for her love of Hawai`i and its people,' her 69-year-old wife said in a statement, 'and I will miss her with all of my heart.'
Her death was announced formally on Monday morning outside 'Iolani Palace, America's only royal residence where the Hawaiian monarchy dwelled but now serves mostly as a museum. James Campbell, her great-grandfather, was an Irish businessman who made his fortune as a sugar plantation owner and one of Hawaii´s largest landowners.
He had married Abigail Kuaihelani Maipinepine Bright. Their daughter, Abigail Wahiika`ahu`ula Campbell, married Prince David Kawananakoa, who was named an heir to the throne.
Their daughter Lydia Kamaka`eha Liliu`okulani Kawananakoa Morris had Abigail with her husband William Jeremiah Ellerbrock.
After the prince died, his widow adopted their grandchild, the young Abigail, which strengthened her claim to a princess title. She acknowledged in an interview with Honolulu Magazine in 2021 that had the monarchy survived, her cousin Edward Kawananakoa would be in line to be the ruler, not her.

Thats not marriage. Don’t care what the delusionals think.
That’s one way to kill the line
No it’s not marriage but that is one hilarious headline.
“wife”. What a joke.
Is there some nephew or niece to inherit the throne?
They way that is written I have no idea what it really is saying. Some journalist’s need to find a new job.
I love how incongruous the “Morris” is.
WHAT A WAY TO GO!
Lived that long stupid.
Royalty is perversion, racism, pride, and every sin of the democtrat party wrapped in kale.
HER WIFE??????????
Well, I guess we know why she’s the last of her line.
Princess Pupule has plenty papayas
She loves to give them away
And all of the neighbors they say
Oh me-ya oh my-ya you really should try-ya
A little piece of the Princess Pupule’s papayas
Zazza zazza zazza zazza zay
Princess Pupule’s not truly unruly
To pass out papayas each day
But all of the neighbors they say
She may give you the fruit but she hang on to the root
And so she has the fruit and the root to boot
Zazza zazza zazza zazza zay
(alternate lyric after ‘they say’:
The sample is ample, and so is the source
She’ll break her an acre and grow more of course)
One bright Sunday afternoon
It was field day in her papaya groves
But I reached the gate an hour too late
The customers were lined up in droves
So let this be a warning
Go early in the morning
And it is true you’ll never rue the day
The Princess Pupule has plenty papayas
She loves to give it away
I mean papayas
She loves to give them away
“Well, I guess we know why she’s the last of her line.”
Yup.
I remember when “her wife” was a typing error. Now it’s a sign of willing submission to an insane mandate.
Well, on the bright side I guess it would be nice to have a wife 27 years younger than you.
And no, I’m not saying that younger wives are better. Because saying that would be wrong.
“ Royalty is perversion, racism, pride, and every sin of the democtrat party wrapped in kale.”
Now that sentence deserves some type of award !!
And I have started eating kale , supposed to be good for ya
She was was “Irish businessman”?
Does anyone know how to write a coherent sentence anymore?
There is a new Disney movie to be made from this… :)
