I can't tell if you're joking or not.
If you really have never heard of Lonesome Dove, read it. Very good book. And the eight hour television miniseries based off of it was amazing too (probably Robert Duvall's greatest role).

I’m guessing the Rangers are NOT the sex offenders.

Never read Larry McMurtry but his son, musician James McMurtry wrote the best song ever about the northern Texas/southern Oklahoma crystal methamphetamine industry.
Listen to the lyrics.

A great Western novel. Pulitzer Prize winning for what that’s worth. The author was Larry McMurtry who wrote many novels, almost all set in Texas. I highly recommend it. It was also a very good miniseries. Robert Duval and Tommy Lee Jones were great in it.

The big picture: The book about two retired Texas Rangers on an epic cattle drive during the last days of the West includes scenes of sexual assault and characters who are prostitutes. My Gawd! There were prostitutes in the Old West?1 And sexual assault occurred?

Yes. It’s a great book. The TV show wasn’t bad either.

Not a book for the under 12 set.
Might be ok for the 13-15 set.
I would not worry about it for the 16 and older group.
Should not be assigned for class work.
Blood Meridian is right out though.

I loved “Lonesome Dove.” I read it in the summer of ‘92, taking my paperback out to the pool over a couple of weekends and reading at night before I fell asleep. Took me about two weeks and then I recommended it to all of my reading friends.
I admired McMurtry’s versatility as a fiction writer. He also wrote “The Last Picture Show” and “Terms of Endearment,” among many others. He was very adept at making his characters spring off the page and become your friends.

Though the book contains quite a bit of sexually explicit content, there was no discussion about whether the proposed legislation would also ban the Bible, which has already been challenged in one district.

Neither the Bible
or the Book Lonesome Dove
has pornographic illustrations
or
how to instructions.
