California moving company Meathead Movers is sued for promoting its young, buff staff as Biden's age-discrimination commissioners crack down on employers

A California moving company that uses student athletes as movers is being sued for violating age-discrimination laws.

Meathead Movers, a company that prides itself on using clean-cut youthful workers, is being pursued by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).

The Fresno based business is said to have failed to recruit and hire workers over 40 into positions within the company.

Employment lawyers and trade groups have said the case will shine a light on how the agency plan to approach antidiscrimination laws, after President Biden appointed commissioners to tackle the problem.

Many of the allegations from the EEOC say that Meathead Movers focus marketing and hiring that might discourage older workers from applying.

Images from their website and social media show movers for the company are all relatively young people who are physically fit.

Employees also compete in the Meathead Olympics in which they compete against each other by assembling and jumping over boxes.

Workers are frequently pictured with biceps, and are seen jogging from a truck to a house when not carrying any furniture.

According to the EEOC, current employees are asked to scour local gyms, colleges and places where they would frequent to pick up new employees.

The agency had started an investigation into the company in 2017 on its own back, and not from a complaint.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the agency and Meathead Movers had attempted to negotiate a settlement in their case.

The outlet reported that the EEOC had wanted around $15 million from the company, before dropping this to $5 million. Meathead Movers offered to settle for $750,000.

Speaking to the WSJ, company owner Aaron Steed said: 'We are 100% open to hiring anyone at any age if they can do the job.

These cretins just can’t mind their own business. It’s the company’s own concern who they get to move. They can use orangutans if they like!

Soon, we will arrive at the place described in the Vonnegut short story “Harrison Bergeron”.

Yup, I’m pretty sure this is what the founders had in mind when they constructed the government.

I am quite sure that my IT resume has been weeded out by numerous would-be employers because of my mature age. I certainly don’t volunteer my age, though many online forms require date of college graduation, which is an obvious tell. Eventually, I find myself with others like me (presently, contracting, in the not too distant past, banking, where the preference for youth isn’t as severe).

In the case of a furniture moving company, I do not begrudge them wanting people who are likely to have a higher sustainable energy level. At least one of the gals in the article’s photos didn’t look to be in great shape. Frankly, a 45 year-old man could probably move more pounds in a shift.

In reality, most of those 45 year-old men whose money is their muscle would have gotten a union job on a loading dock or similar.

It is noteworthy that the EEOC didn’t even having an older person complaining about not being hired. The commission did this on its own initiative. That makes it look like a straight shakedown to me.

Can't blame them. Unless someone over 40 is in exceptional shape, the risk of injury from moving furniture etc, is much higher. It's a tough job.

We have a company called College Hunks here in Fl. Most of them don’t look very hunky, but they’re nice, efficient and good movers. However, it’s sort of a cute concept and I can’t imagine that anybody in their right mind would object.

I am sick and tired of this PC stupidity.

This is just another example of why US companies often prefer to set up factories overseas.

Anyone get the feeling that Kalifornia is doing this to keep people in the state when they are trying to leave? Sure smells like it.

I'd love to see Trump instruct his people to compile a list of "Things the Government Has Absolutely No Business Messing Around In." It would be a VERY long list.

No Worries. Hire SloJo Biden as the driver and nothing will arrive at the correct address. Hire Hunter Biden and everything will be sold to support his lifestyle.

There’s a guy in Mississippi who has girls in bikinis come to your house to cut the grass and wash your car. Does he now have to hire obese non-gender conforming employees?

It’s the company’s own concern who they get to move.

Federal law says otherwise. Republicans created this monster ~60 years ago with the so-called "Civil Rights Act".

"Things the Government Has Absolutely No Business Messing Around In."

Running a universal, compulsory, pay-as-you-go retirement plan should be number one on that list. It is, by far, the largest thing on which the government spends money.

Because hiring old, out of shape people is a really good idea when you are a moving company.

My head hurts.
