John Kerry Lost the election tonight
10-01-04 | John Knight

It is unfortunate when people confuse relentlessly negative critical comments as intellectual sophistication. There is this strange fascination with a certain segment of Freepers. They seem to think if they are playing devils advocate ALL the time and making constantly critical comments about their own side, it makes them seem thoughtful and intelligent. Maybe we should have a term for this? Call it "McCainism" A metal defect that requires the victim to constantly critize their own side while NEVER pointing out where the other side blew it. Mccainism does not make you look smart. See REAL intelligence would be to provide some serious BALANCED review not this hysterical "OH WE LOST! IT IS ALL OVER" chicken little screech time after time, post after post.

Mark my words Boy's and Girls, John Kerry just lost the election tonight. Since most who suffer from McCainism seem to be lawyers, I will put it to you in terms you might understand. John Kerry may, or may not, have won the formal debate but he didn't win the Jury. And you people always forget this one fact. The JURY (i.e. The American people), not the Debate coaches decides the election.

John Kerry lost the election tonight people. You heard it here first.

There seems to be a lot of relentlessly negative Freepers. Please refer them to this post. Frankly, I am pretty thoughly tired of those Freepers who suffer from McCainism.

Lehrer didn't ask a SINGLE QUESTION about Kerry's Senate record.

There's a Senator, running for President of the United States.. A Senator for TWENTY YEARS!

And you don't question what he's done for the past 20 years that he thinks qualifies him to be president??

What a disgrace. The topic of conversation should immediately go to Lehrer's partisan questioning.

I think almost all of Lehrer's questions to Kerry were "Do you think the president has stopped beating his wife?" and his questions to Bush were "Mr. President, have you stopped beating your wife?"...

I'm a lawyer. I apparently agree with other lawyers to whom you refer. I must be part of the "problem." Regards.

"Lehrer didn't ask a SINGLE QUESTION about Kerry's Senate record. "

Kerry has no record to ask about.

Call me crazy but I feel that Kerry had lost this election before the debate tonight and none of these debates will matter. I really don't think the debates are watched by that many people who are undecided. Most of the people that will watch are the ones like us who are already certain of who we will be voting for. All Kerry proved tonight is that he is good at debating and sounds exactly like a person who has been a senator for 20 years would sound. I liken President Bush to someone like me who would have to get up there and answer loaded questions. BOth started off well but it seemed like the President started to stumble a little in the middle. But it really made no difference to me. It didn't change my vote or of anyone I know that will be watching. I know of NO undecided voters that will be watching.

I think most people on here are acting like tv commentators. If you watch the debate from the heart I think and I'm sure other voters will think Bush wiped the floor with him. Same thing happened with Gore, all of the pundits thought he won but Bush connected with people. I thought Bush made Kerry look like a fool tonight. Kerry lost the election tonight.

You have to agree with MNJohnnie or else your intelligence will be insulted and you will be labeled as having a "disease" called McCainism.

Only cheerleaders are allowed apparently,,,wouldn't want someone to be honest,,only if they agree apparently

Kerry lost bigtime. His pedantry did not help. My wife thought he was off his nut re: "The Global Test" and nuclear proliferation. He must never be President!

I have to agree. Kerry came off as a used car salesman. He was able to forcefully state his case, but when it comes down to brass tacks, he had no case to state.

The People of the united states are not judging this as a college debating contest. They are looking for comfort and leadership. Bush was not articulate. He never has been. But he is decisive. That is what we need now. That is what our enemies fear.

Did anyone catch the flip flop in the actual debate that Kerry did on Saddam. At the first of the debate he said that he thought Saddam wasn't a threat and at the end of the debate he said the murderer was..Kerry just can't help it...

I'm hoping the American public will think for itself and be lead around by the nose by the MSM. It is shameful how the media conducted itself tonight.

Excellent point.....Kerry should have been made to defend his record in the Senate. Lehrerdidn't do a good job.

At least Bush mentioned the vote against the 87 billion.

From the post: "John Kerry lost the election tonight people - "

I hope and pray you are correct -

But, I do believe that someone forgot to tell Bush that there were people (a lot of them) who don't get the behind the scene info - that the ones undecided are normally young(I believe) -

Sigh - just my thoughts -

My 2 Cents:

This debate was similar to the Bush/Gore debates. Intially the pudits claimed Gore the winner. They were wrong. Bush clearly won on the facts and the steadfastness of his position. Anyone who read the main editorial in the WSJ today will note that Kerry's presentation was seriously fact flawed. Kerry made every mistake they warned against. Bush clearly won.

Bravo! My sentiments exactly -- find negativity disgusting and not worth my time to read a lot of threads. So many new posters are also irritating as heck. They try to portray themselves as pro-Bush and then attack or write about what Kerry does in a positive manner. Had it with them too.

wonder if they are the same freepers who were gnashing their teeth over the summer when kerry and moveon were attacking without much of a response from the white house???

Look what happened then. Strategery - the dems shot their wad and the president came back to get a big lead.

For all the micro-analyzing critics, kerry had to both prove he had a better vision for the country AND be likable. He did neither. He was the boston flailer - saying this and that to get people to dislike bush.

All bush had to do was be himself - calm, honest, likeable. He had to remind the american people that he's not the antichrist the liberals have been painting him as.

No, he didn't go for the jugular when he could have. He didn't need to. Kerry will be sliced and diced for the next several days on what he said on talk radio and the internet. Bush's people will do the attack on the sly. Bush just had to sit up there and take the heat from kerry without flinching, because it makes kerry look desperate by comparison.

So relax. The things you are judging the debate on are not the things the general public judges them on.

I'm not sure that Bush picked up any undecideds tonight, but I am certain that sKerry's anti-terror "tough talk" sent a bunch of his peacenik voters over to Nader.
