Religious Right Unhinged???
www.RightViews.com ^ | 03/24/05 | OJ

Personal Message: Since you seemingly care more about parodies of the DU (I personally really like them, great work) and simplistic sensationalist headlines than you do about the realities of the harsh international world that we live in - I bid Freep farewell. I do, however, leave you with this...

The religious right has officially become as unhinged as the moon-bat anti-war activists on the left. Furiously and stubbornly refusing to relinquish propaganda sentiments in favor of clear and unbiased logic has unfortunately rendered a portion of our party intellectually irrelevant. Just as the followers of Howard Dean can bring no legitimacy to international policy procedures, so has the religious right managed to marginalize itself in the eyes of mainstream America.

Absolutely, we can have a debate about the 'right to life'. We can indefinitely discuss abortion and assisted suicide. Yet these are conversations that will not reach an agreement, on an individual level, in our lifetime and probably not in the years of our grandchildren- simply because there is not an agreeable answer.

Boisterously touting the known will of our creator, the religious right professes to channel what the right outcome of this particular dispute should be. Certainly, you may feel passionate about one position or another, yet your opinion will only be one among many. Chances are that the nuances that make your position credible to you, will not be acceptable to whoever is arguing next to you – history tells us that eventually your congregation will separate and split - EVEN if you are on the same side today. These are the unfortunate realities of spiritual beliefs and clear evidence of why religion and politics should never mix.

Sometimes it takes a clear and unattached mind to properly assess realities; distinguishing from literal propaganda and factual nonsense.

I am glad that you are on top of it...

open eyes have never brought as much to mankind as the time humanity looked into the mirror.

I was wondering that, myself... perhaps we need to apply stronger medicine?

Actually, I think that if Terri had made her wishes more explicit, either by sharing her intent with more people or memorializing them with a legal instrument, this would not be nearly as contentious as it is.

I think Freeper thoughts on this tend to come from a wide distrust of Terri's husband. There are good reasons to doubt his word (though those reasons evidently didn't sway Judge Greer). To be fair, the fact that there are good reasons to doubt him doesn't mean he isn't telling the truth, though.

Ultimately, we don't know what Terri thought, and we don't know what she thinks now.

So I don't see the issue as you do. If Terri's wishes were convincingly demonstrated (that is, if the main witness to her desire to have her life ended in this situation wasn't a guy who few on this forum trust), I think most people would honor her wishes and have her pass on.

Those that would continue to press on that her intent should somehow not be honored would be in a very small minority, both on FR and more so nationally. I have not seen many Freepers who feel that way, though.

This really has only peripherally to do with religious fervor: many people felt less and less confident in Michael Shiavo's word the more and more they learned about the case. That's entirely legit, whether they are very religious, casually religious, or not very religious at all.

Be seeing you.

"Sometimes it takes a clear and unattached mind to properly assess realities; distinguishing from literal propaganda and factual nonsense."

and what sort of pharmaceuticals have you plied your mind with to become 'unattached' (assume that indicates neurons disinclined to synapse) and full of glib, oxymoronic, non-sensical wit as you seem to expect us to accept as cogent thought?

this must be a tease, it has the scent of a kerry or gore!

Just one little point, from two perspectives:

If God didn't value life, why did He bother to create it?

OR

If life itself isn't valuable, why does it bother to be?

It's always a sad day when one of our long term greats leaves with a magnificent erudite Opus.

Of course, now those terrific essays on your blog that have two and three hits on them will now be reduced to one hit per essay: Yours!

Bwahahahaha!
