Thank You President Bush

This consevative wants to thank President Bush for signing the Family Entertainment and Copyright Act into law. The legislation gives legal protections to the new filtering technology that helps parents automatically skip or mute sections of commercial movie DVDs. In effect it creates an exemption in copyright laws to make sure companies selling filtering technology won't get sued.

The liberal Left in Hollywood maintains that the $4.95 subscription fee customers will pay ClearPlay, the front runner in this industry, should include a fee to them for the right to alter their "creative" work. The law gives no such concession, but it does provide penalties for the sale of edited and bootleg copies of the movies. To this parent it seems like a logical choice for those with young children in the house.

The V-chip is there for programing, and now the technology is available for the DVD technology. As conservative voice and movie reviewer Michael Medved has pointed out on his radio program, the bar set for allownaces for foul language in PG-13 movies is being moved regularly and much more foul language is being allowed in.
