Howard Deans recent comments are quite interesting when one considers Dr. Deans record on race.
Dean attacked the Republican Party as a "white Christian party. I feel that it is more important to look at someones actions rather than their words. So perhaps he should compare the minorities that Dean appointed to his cabinet as Governor of Vermont and the minorities that George W. Bush appointed to his cabinet.
Here is a list of the minorities George W. Bush appointed to his cabinet during his first term:
Colin Powell, Secretary of State
Rod Paige, Secretary of Education
Spencer Abraham, Secretary of Energy
Mel Martinez, Secretary of Housing and Urban Development
Elaine Chao, Secretary of Labor
Norman Mineta, Secretary of Transportation

Does he have a strong heart??

I still find it amazing, after all the offensive things, and all the lies, he has said about republicans, that when he finally says something that is actually positive, THAT's when the demcocrats start disagreeing with him.
What I mean is that, while there is a whole story to be told about why the democrats think that being a "white christian" is a perjorative term, in fact being a white christian is a perfectly FINE thing to be. I am a white christian, and don't mind anybody calling me a republican white christian. And it is true that a majority of republicans are whites who identify themselves as christians (not really surprising since a vast majority of americans as a whole call themselves christians).
So I don't know which is worse -- that Dean thinks it is a good attack on republicans to call them "white christians", or that the democrats are fine with saying that republicans don't work for a living, so long as you don't credit them with being christian.
I guess that if Dean has said republicans are mostly right-wing fundamentalists, the democrats wouldn't have had a problem with it. It's OK to call us the "bad" kind of religious people.
Dean has a one track mind....Whoop'em. Wonder how many white, christian Democrats he offended?
