Fraud, What Fraud? Voter Oddities in Georgia

Houston Home Journal Warner Robins, GA

Personally, I was relieved when Georgia Secretary of State Cathy Cox stated that, “I cannot recall one documented case of voter fraud during my tenure as Secretary of State.” Never again would I have to have my vote canceled out by a constituent who, long ago, had gone to his grave or, better yet, had never existed. Cathy Cox’s representations were not only assuring, they offered hope that the long anticipated demise of our democratic system has been “greatly exaggerated.”

My relief was sadly short-lived; however, when I learned that in the State of Georgia a voter can simply walk in and vote without a driver’s license or official ID. For example, a resourceful voter can take their dead granddaddy’s social security card and cast a ballot from beyond the grave. In fact, after talking to Senator Cecil Staton this week, I was downright forlorn to learn that Cathy Cox was completely aware that there have been reports that at least 450 dead people had voted last year. To think that Cathy Cox would be so economical with the truth.

Staton came up with a simple idea that maybe Ms. Cox should have thought of first: Rather than allowing a voter to use his friend’s hunting license on Election Day, we should required people to use state approved picture IDs. What a great idea, who could oppose such a sensible piece of legislation? At it turned out, the entire Democratic Party, the ACLU and Rev. Jessie Jackson who all branded Cecil a “racist”.
