I don't think GM can be fixed at this point because of the UAW contracts. Their number one priority needs to be cutting back to two brands of cars: a Cadillac luxury division and a General Motors division for everything else - no more Chevrolet, no more Saturn, no more Pontiac. Then they need to drastically cut down the number of models they produce, automate and modernize the assembly lines, steal Japanese plant management techniques, and deliver quality cars for about five years before the public starts to trust their product again. The UAW stands squarely in the way of all of this.
Their only solution is bankruptcy and restarting with all-new union-free plants in a place like Texas.
