The sentence was INSANE!!! (vanity post)

The sentence was INSANE!!! If saying that Moussaoui was judged by “12 people too stupid to avoid jury duty” is hyperbole, then perhaps he was prosecuted by “lawyers too stupid to make it in private practice.” They stand no chance against the Johnny Edwards of the world. Maybe even that is unfair. The real indictment is of our fellow citizens, enough of whom are the fabled “useful idiots,” sure to be present in any random sampling of 12 or more. Just look at how close were the last few elections to see that.

Our judicial system is broken. A few brave souls recognize this and put their careers and / or reputations on the line to correct the more egregious instances of technicalities overwhelming real justice. Kudos to Judge James Moody Jr. for stepping in to see that justice was done, at least to the limit of his authority (A Judge Stuns Al-Arian With Maximum Time).

Our hapless Moussaoui jurors were simply part of the Kabuki Theatre that has become the norm for a high profile trial. Moussaoui played his part perfectly, insulting us all the way but carefully out of earshot of the deaf, dumb (colloquial meaning), and blind jury. Plenty of sound bites for the AlQ network to play over and over in the coming months. Imagine if Moussaoui made the mistake of letting the jury know how he really felt. I'm sure his handlers played a great part in making sure that did not occur.

I doubt very seriously that Moussaoui wanted martyrdom. Who knows what excuse would have been used on that fateful day. But this time he had his chance to grab 72 brass rings and get the jury to kill him, giving his fellow jihadists a brand spanking new martyr. No message from headquarters, “hey, dude, time to take one for the team?” But he didn't ..... things that make you go hmmmmmmmm.

The jury, dutifully blind to the real tenets of multiculturalism, applied Western values and gave him the sympathy vote his defense team knew was in the offing. What they really served up for us is a new cause-celeb for the fading insurgency and just in the knick of time, too! Think of how downtrodden those intrepid jihadists felt after their sub leader gives the call to go to the Sudan, Iraq not even getting a mention. Then they learn that Shiite neighbors come to the aid of their lone Sunni neighbor (Baghdad neighborhood rises up and fights back). Things must have been pretty down in the dumps at jihad central. Game over, dude!

But never fear, just like the Red Sox, the American public snatches defeat from the jaws of victory and gives a new symbol around which to rally. No, I don’t mean a dead foot soldier who certainly would have some value as a martyr but that value overshadowed by the demonstration of American resolve; the jury didn’t serve up that lesson. Instead, there is a live and kicking comrade sitting in an American jail and it is time to grab some hostages and tie every event not in the worn-out demand for releasing all the Gitmo detainees or the women held in foreign lands (as if they really gave a hoot about what happened to them). No, the cries will come “free Moussaoui or we will insert demand du jour here.” Just wait unit we have a President too feckless to resist and, contrary to what some so-called experts are saying about the irreversibility of the sentence, issues the Clinton-memorial Presidential Pardon that will indeed add the final note of defeat to this insanity.

I expect Moussaoui will in time be given to France to serve his jail sentence where he will shortly be released. To show his gratitude to France, he will then recruit, train and direct suicide bombers and other various Muslim malcontents to attack French targets. Eventually the French will surrender and make Moussaoui the Prime Imam of France at which point President Hillary Clinton will invite him to the White House for a state dinner.

Perhaps at the demand of the new UN Human Rights commission who classify him as a political prisoner and a nuanced President gives up Moussaoui's custody to a France, as you suggest.

I don't blame the jury for this -- they were I think considering what they were allowed to consider. The blame really goes to 30 odd years of liberal interpretations of the Constitution. Since Miranda, the emphasis has been on the criminals' rights to the detriment of the rights of the victims and their loved ones. Yes, the jury could have considered the testimony from the loved ones, but evidently, it chose not to -- but rather, Moussoui's allegedly terrible childhood. That in my opinion should not have even been a factor in the jury's deliberations.

And yes, as others have said, had this been tried in a military court, the outcome would have been much different, I'm sure.

Sweet Mary and Joseph. And wasn't it a German judge who let another convicted 9-11'er go? Yeah, as screwed up as our system might be, we can't hold a candle to what would occur over there. A demonstration one-fifth the size of the last jobs march and Moussaoui is free. GWB: this would be impeachable.

The jury just sympathized with the, bat-out-of-hell, because it takes one to know one. And thieves and robbers help one another, don't ya know...

I absolutely do not think there is any way it will happen before 2008. But in 15 years or 20 years, who knows what will happen and who might be in charge?

You give this guy time to become little more than a footnote in the WOT and I wouldn't be surprised to see him go to France and ultimately be released.

A co conspirator with the killing of 3000? Life? Stands to reason must have been at least one nutty liberal in the jury.

Allah demands blood sacrifice.

Islamofascist; Radical Islam is an insane death cult, and "moderate" Islam is it's Trojan Horse in the West World.

Three Christian girls beheaded in Indonesia

Islam is not a religion; it embodies no concept of spirituality.

Islam is a political system.

The 'peace of allah' is the peace of ultimate submission, never having to question, never having to decide, just to do as you are told; the peace of the hive, a queen named allah and her many drone workers.

Islam is a system of coercion.

Islam IS a terrorist support network

Remember that Jeffrey Daumer died in prison serving a life term in less time than Tim McVeigh did on death row. I suspect he's not going to be able to take the sort of "probing" he's going to get in prison.
I'd rather he got the death penalty, but you never know who might grant him clemency or send him to France. If a Dumbocrat happens to win in '08...
My point is that if he's in the general population, he won't last.

Good post. Thanks.

I believe Moussaoui was not shy to tell what he thinks about America, its just too many people adapted a point-view that they must be so enlightened as to be above revenge or punishment.

You are right, they missed an opportunity to send a message, when this whole war is about the message. Osama and all various Jihadists believe that their will is stronger than ours. Before 9/11 they were interpreting our actions as a message that America is a paper tiger and can be influenced to ultimately do what they want. On a large scale they were mistaken and overplayed their hand to their detriment. But in Moussaoui case and unfortunately many times after 9/11, we sent many contradicting messages that just may be, deep inside, we are a paper tiger.

The Middle East definitely needed an attitude adjustment. Unproductive, jealous, channeling anger arousing from perpetual unsatisfaction into a religious fervor - after 9/11 they received a two pronged message from America and allies: first, you've got to change, and second, its not safe to mess with US.

SO, yes, they will interpret Moussaoui verdict as a message of weakness, and it will hurt our efforts.
