I would like to introduce myself to the forum as "Calhoun" the co-editor of yet another, but quite different, conservative blog at http://www.politicaloverload.com
Myself and my fellow editors are all relatively young conservatives who have, for some time, found ourselves increasingly disenchanted with not just the direction of the Republican Party but the conservaitve movement itself.
We're a website dedicated to returning conservatism to its limited government roots with an emphasis on re-establishing and strictly maintaining the concept of federalism.
We view the modern so-called "conservative agenda" of everything from to the Federal Marriage Amendment to abortion to the Federal funding of education to be inconsistent with the original intent of the constitution allowing the individual states to formulate social policy consistent with the beliefs and wishes of the citizens of those states regardless of how liberal or conservative those policies may be. This goes hand in hand with a Federal government that must ONLY act when specifically granted the power to do so by the constitution.
I hope anyone interested will visit the site and give us plenty of feedback, criticisms, or praise. I'd also be glad to answer any questions on this forum.

enforcing a nation-wide agenda through the apparatus of the Federal government. This is neither consistent with proper conservative principles nor is it in keeping with
the original intent of the Constitution, therefore, those who propagate the idea are not conservatives.

What have you done to make you worthy of our time or respect?
I do not ask this to be a smart ass. But I have only so much time and energy to give to the conservative cause and I don't want to squander it on just another undistinguished blog among tens of thousands.
A legitimate question to be sure.

Beyond that, we have both dedicated nearly all of our free time, our energy, and a considerable amount of money to advance the conservative cause. We are both long time members of a grass-roots non-partisan conservative organization known as the Young Conservatives of Texas. While our blog is not affiliated with YCT, we have both been seasoned by the political battles YCT is known for in the state.
While my focus and experiance is with campaign management and constitutional theory (including running my own campaign for the state legislature in 2004); my partner has focused on national security issues holding a M.A. in Defense and Strategic studies and serving as the Jane Mortensen Fellow at the National Institute for Public Policy.
In both of our cases, after all of our work for various conservative causes and national issues we both started becoming disenchanted with the direction of the conservative movement and the Republican Party around '03-04. After complaining among ourselves for some time we decided to do something about it and this blog is the fruit of that action.
Like I've said, though, we're both fairly young which is why we want to do what we can to stop our own generation of conservatives from jumping on the "big-government conservatism" bandwagon. Whether we're worth your time is obviously something you have to determine for yourself, but we'd certainly appreciate your patronage.

Have you considered the need for a hook? Perhaps an issue in which you can become expert? A particular cause? A methodology? Anything that can set you apart from the herd?

BTW, I go back to Barry Goldwater- too young to vote for him, I worked for his campaign in 1964.
My part of the South was 80% FDR Democrat at the time... it was very "interesting."
And my tagline is from true, and real, life...
Though we do intend to discuss issues, we're somewhat more out to discuss concepts. There are a million blogs out there that give a rundown of the latest daily news, but very few that discuss the state of conservatism or what those daily events mean to the greater movement. If we have a "hook" that would be it. Obviously this blog isn't for everyone, but we hope there will be something there for many.
At the moment, we're trying to establish exactly where we're coming from because some of our points and principles may seem a bit out of left-field to many conventional conservatives.
Like I've said, though, we're both fairly young which is why we want to do what we can to stop our own generation of conservatives from jumping on the "big-government conservatism" bandwagon.
That is something that I really hope you succeed at.
