" Will Russia learn a lesson?"

Putin did learn a lesson. "If you can't beat 'em - join'em"! Putin has big plans for this partnership, becoming the worlds biggest oil barron, controling all of Europe, Pacific coast Asia, and Japan's oil supplies, and prices, plus ridding Europe and the ME of all American influence. He's already shown a few countries in Eastern Europe who don't want to tow the Putin line how cold it can get in the winter...

I figure Slick KKKlinton with his support of oligarchs and his bombing campaign against Serbia had something to do with present Russian policies but, basically, the policy is self-destructive. We'd not be doing Russia any favors to leave Iran alone.

Russia has suffered terribly at the hands of Islamic terrorism over the centuries...

Gimme a break.
Russia has caused more untold suffering and death for people around the world, including its own people, than all of the Muslim atrocities committed against all people groups combined in the history of the world. Russia continues to suffer today because it is ruled by a wicked, corrupt leadership.

Yes and no. Putin is throwing in with the Persian Shi'ites, while at the same time fighting the Sunni Chechens. We've got anti-Persian Shi'ites on our side in Iraq, and still cling to Clinton's Balkan policy of giving Orthodox Christian lands to Muslims. We are really cozy with the Wahhabist House of Saud, whose version of Sunni Islam underlies Al Qaeda, even if Al Qaeda want to supplant the House of Saud.

As I've observed before, the US committed military forces to take land from Orthodox Christians and give it Muslims. Last I checked, Russia hasn't committed any military forces to disposess Western Christians, secular humanists, or anyone else of their land to give it to Muslims. Until we stop supporting the Muslims in the Balkans, or Russia launches an offensive against a Western country to help Muslims take over, pointing a finger at Putin with an accusation of 'If you can't beat 'em - join 'em!' rings a bit hollow.

They are more likely to be the victim of Irans nuclear ambitions than the US or Europe, yet, they continue to blow holes in their feet. I don't understand the Russians.

"because it is ruled by a wicked, corrupt leadership"
Every regime [hence every leadership] is an adequate reflection of the socially active part of its population. [colloquially the preceding phrase is known as "every people deserves its government"]. Rulers come and go, but the population remains, and you would do well by transferring your condemnation to it.

To understand is very easy. Civilizational inferiority complex - always being backward [and being conscious of it], always trying to catch up [by theft or importation, usually in waves], and always coming short regardless of how much had been imported or stolen due to [drumroll, please] their own civilizational, i.e. sociological nature. When the whole civilization can be summed up in the saying "If I'm the boss then you're a POS, and if you're the boss then I'm a POS", then such inferiority complex is both unavoidable and richly deserved.

And just to reiterate: our soldiers and Marines are being killed in Iraq by weapons supplied by the Russians - AK47s, Kalashnikovs, etc.

Russia helped Saddam and his psychotic sons fight us and most of the weapons killing our men and women in Iraq come from Russia's Iranian ayatollah comrades. Their blood is on Russia's hands.
