We found no extreme injustice in the transcripts of the trial.
People are calling for hearings in congress to go over the evidence to see whether there was any injustice.
But some assume the results of that investigation and are pushing this.
Of course, they know it will never pass. And it shouldn't. Congress should not be overturning jury verdicts.
If they want, they can pass legislation which would immunize border patrol agents from the charges that were in the offense -- it would apply to EVERY BP agent. They could make it retroactive.
Congress shouldn't be legislating for individuals. In some cases, Congress is explicitly forbidden in the constitution from legislating at individuals.
There is movement to clarify the law these agents were charged under. A law they should have NEVER been charged under...using a firearm in the commission of a crime....They did NOT go out that day to commit a crime and Johnny Sutton damn well knows it.
Bottom line here, the reason AMERICANS are so ticked off about this is that most really don't have a problem with a border agent plugging a drug running foreign national in the butt.
The sentences were insane!
I believe there were a whole lot more of us that found injustice than did not.
There was plenty of disagreement on that point.

One problem was what was not in the transcripts: The jury members who claimed that some of the other jury members gave false “judge’s instructions” to them. I don’t think this will make a difference in the appeal, but if such skullduggery had sent me to prison for more than 10 years, where I was nearly beaten to death, I don’t think I would call that “justice.”

That does sound like the best chance for congress to actually accomplish something. However, with the Dems in control, and with Bush and some republicans pandering to the Hispanic vote, I think that would be difficult to pass, let alone override Bush’s (or Giuliani’s or Hillary’s) veto.
