Attention all Scout Leaders
New Boy Scout Rank Requirements Effective January 1, 2008
The National Youth Protection Committee recommended additions to Boy Scout rank requirements that were approved and become effective January 1, 2008. These changes will help us advance the importance of Youth Protection training beyond the initial Boy Scout joining requirements, and keep youth informed and actively engaged in understanding the key elements of personal safety and protection.
TENDERFOOT RANK
Revised requirement 9:
Explain the importance of the buddy system as it relates to your personal safety on outings and in your neighborhood. Describe what a bully is and how you should respond to one.
SECOND CLASS RANK
New requirement 8b:
Explain the three Rs of personal safety and protection.
FIRST CLASS RANK
New requirement 12:
Describe the three things you should avoid doing related to use of the internet. Describe a cyberbully and how you should respond to one.
The changes will be represented in the 2008 Boy Scout Requirements book and the revised printing of the 11th edition of the Boy Scout Handbook.
Also before Scouts start on a merit badge, a Scout should check the current requirements in the latest version of Boy Scout Requirements. (No. 33215) The requirements for many merit badges have changed in the last few years.
Just came in. Update for all Scoutmasters, Scout Commissioners, Advancement Chairs (Unit, District, & Council), and Scout parents.
Can you identify this Life Scout?
I've been waiting for a Scouting thread to post it.
Looks like a hollywood image from an Iniana Jone movie.
Must be one or the other of the presidential contenders. green uniforms went out in 1980 so it would go back to their scouting time. The photo has been cropped so you can’t see the sleeve. other patches there might give away too much. No fanfare is made about scouting career unless the candidate made eagle.
Hey! I had one of those green uniforms. Are you implying that I am old?
Damn, looks like John Edwards. A blight on us.
This should have been part of the requirements 30 years ago.
If the uniform still fits your not getting older just better otherwise all bets are off ! You know your getting older when all the doctors and dentists start looking like kids.
That Phoenix kid that o.d.’ed. You can tell he’s a junkie - he doesn’t have his neckerchief rolled and arranged under his collar.
Uniform needs starch, too.
Yep.
That did not start until Oscar de la Renta started designing the uniforms.
Yes, well. Tidiness is extremely important. General Patton predates Oscar de la Renta, bless his heart.
We used to turn our collars inside for neatness.
In the 60’s, we didn’t even have collars.
And starch in a Scouts uniform? Yeah, that’s gonna happen.
