Dodd: Stupidity is No Excuse
The Virginian ^ | 6/19/2008 | Moneyrunner

(WTNH) _ Senator Chris Dodd’s nearly 28 years as Connecticut’s United States Senator is being seriously tested. He says he thought the VIP treatment he got from Countrywide Financial was just because he was a good customer, and not because he was a United States Senator who chairs the senate banking committee. It appears some people in Connecticut are having a hard time buying that.

W-T-I-C AM Radio’s Jim Vicevich has been fielding calls about Senator Chris Dodd’s mortgages since Friday. But, since Dodd finally addressed the issue in public Tuesday, it appears many are not buying his explanation.

“As anyone’s been through this, you negotiate, you shop around, you negotiate points and other matters, it’s really commonplace,” Senator Dodd said. “So we were, obviously, trying to get the best deal we could but not a deal based on the job I held.”

Tony, a talk show caller, replied, “Does this really surprise anybody? I’m starting to believe that not only do the Democrats and all politicians in general think that everybody’s stupid.”

Meanwhile, Jim, a talk show caller, added, “This man is the chairman of the Senate Banking Commission and he says he doesn’t know that he got a good deal? Then he’s incompetent, he should step down from his position immediately.”

I agree.

This should drops him from Obama's VP candidate list. Then again Obama, since Obama has picked those with extensive baggage such as Eric Holder, he might still pick Dodd.

Yes, but not necessarily in that order. Dodd, and many others inside the beltway, such as Gore, "Plugs" Biden, Murtha, et al, are idiots first and bad liars, second. These people are in gubmint because they could not hope to earn a living, certainly not the kind of living they bilk out of the taxpayers, in the real world. The first characteristic leads to the second, IMHO......

If this were a republican, the cries and whines for his resignation would be loud and clear from the Marxist Dimocrats in Congress and the Soviet press. But, since he is a Marxist Dim, never mind. Leave him alone.

Sounds like Dodd really belives those bank ads where the friendly bank treats all their customers like a long lost brother. Rush Limbaugh’s satire machine ought to have a field day.

A really bad idiot?

Didn’t Homer get fired from his job as the Village Idiot in one of the Simpsons’ Halloween episodes?

Maybe a similar fate should befall Sen Dodd. He doesn’t even make a good Senate Idiot.

Hopefully the voters of the entire country are not as stupid as those in Maryland. Our current leftist governor was the mayor of Baltimore, who had many clear failures as his legacy. Since he was a charming Dem with big media in his pocket, he beat the incumbant, a very effective Republican.

A novel defense. Claim incompetence.

Liar or incompetent Boob?

Either way he should not be Chairman of the Banking Committee.

G.H.W. Bush was villified for not being up to date on grocery store scanners.

Dodd gets a pass for not doing his job.

If I don't believe in Dodd, does that make me a Demtheist?

Even worse than the fact he would come forth with such a lame excuse is the fact he has the balls to offer it all. Virtually every one of the 535 members of Congress are hopelessly out of touch with daily life in America.

I know it gets Rush's dander up when someone accuses him of being out of touch, but the truth is that he is totally out of touch with the lives of everyday Americans.

I had an eye-opening experience the other day. I am a freelance photographer and was headed to a shoot but was in need of gas. I stopped at a station where I have their credit card, thinking I would fill up and be on my way in nothing flat. I could not find my card. I knew it wasn't lost, but probably in the pocket of a pair of pants at home.

No problem. I'll just pay cash and not worry about it. I had a $20 bill so I went in and asked for $20 on pump #2.

I started pumping and drifted off into thoughts of my upcoming shoot. All of sudden the pump stopped dead in its tracks! Power failure? Counterfeit $20 bill? I looked around and saw that I had pumped barely 4.5 gallons of regular unleaded into a tank that usually needs 12.5 gallons to fill. Then I realized that with today's prices my $20, which a year or so ago would be more than enough to fill my tank, now got me less than a third of a tank.

Wow, now I know how easy using that credit card makes paying more and more for gas.

I'm back “in touch” with that part of life in the US! Congress-people need that experience too.

Dodd, a Democrat, is on the Banking committee. One would expect that he would know something about rates, and would be aware of the conflict of interest.
But one would be wrong. Dodd is a Democrat. Democrats are held to a lower set of standards than are Republicans.

All this is traceable back to B.O.’s decision to appoint another sleazy character to head his Veep selection committee - which led to his own dealings with Countrywide, and lo and behold! Dodd and Conrad pop up too. And Dodd had jumped on the Obama bandwagon earlier - delicious ironies all around.
