Gergen: “Realization is Setting in That McCain Might Just Win”
The Patriot Room ^ | August 18, 2008 | Bill Dupray

David Gergen, adviser to Democrat and Republican presidents alike (and whom I think is far more to the left than the right), thinks McCain may be taking young Barry Obama to school. Gergen thinks McCain The Crusty destroyed Cool-Cat Obama at the Saddleback Forum.

Heading into the candidates’ appearances on Saturday night at Saddleback Church, the conventional wisdom in politics was Barack Obama should have a clear upper hand in any joint appearance with John McCain — one the young, eloquent, cool, charismatic dude who can charm birds from the trees, the other the meandering, sometimes bumbling, old fellow who can barely distinguish Sunnis from Shiias.

Well, kiss that myth goodbye.

McCain came roaring out of the gate from the first question and was a commanding figure throughout the night as he spoke directly and often movingly about his past and the country’s future. By contrast, Obama was often searching for words and while far more thoughtful, was also less emotionally connective with his audience.

The MSM and liberals in general, keep trying to make this election like it’s 1960. They want Obama to play the part of JFK. They want him to be the youthful vigorous smart candidate, as compared to the tired persona of Richard Nixon in their famous debates in 1960.

I think when we get to the debates this year, that McCain will make a better impression on the undecided and moderate swing voters who will decide this election.

By the time JFK ran for Prez in 1960, he had been a WW II naval officer who had seen combat in the Pacific, had served in Congress and in the Senate. Obama was a "community-organizer" and has been a Senator for less than one term (most of this time has been utilized to campaign for President).

Message to the libs: there is no way to rationally equate JFK with Obama.

McCain just might win this thing?

Should we be elated - or worried?

America is SO screwed.

I guess a better way to put it is:
Obama just might lose this thing!

David Rodham Gergen is sucking up in the hopes McCain will let him change sides again.

Yep. When the election is over and McCain doesn't even give him an interview, let alone a job which is what he wants, Gergen will switch back to the democrats.

To think that the New Hour used to put this gut on as their token "conservative". Then Clinton offered him a job and he flipped on a dime. Say what you will about Bubba but he was a good judge of character and he had this guy's number.

McCain might just win, but I'm sure he'll do something to make me hate him again before election day. It's John's way. After his answer to the Russians, I finally broke down and sent him some money. Then the Saddleback thing. Just can't count on Obama being that stupid again. I dread this VP pick. I know he's going to veer left or choose some irrelevant suit like Ridge. Then I'm going to have to go back to hating him again.

Disingenuous? Yes.

While I don't agree with you, THAT is hilarious.

“With a dem stumbling = thoughtful, analytical, etc. With a republican stumbling = senile, ignorant, muddled, crazy, etc..”

Yup, Obama is thoughtful and nuanced. That’s their explanation for his stuttering and bumbling through questions that are really not that difficult.

You for got the word du Jour, “Nuanced”!

I could find some more acurate and apropriate words to describe Obama, but they might require me to go to confession for being uncharitable.

Translation: The left and the Rinos are realizing that nobody is buying Obama’s left wing lunacy.

This race started with Obama is unacceptable, and (shocker to me) has now moved to McCain may just be acceptable. (yes, I know a HUGE shock)

obama will get the perenial lefty lunatic 15% that will always vote for the “(D)”.

Re Gergen — Yes, I agree he is a disgrace, such a smarmy suck-up. I can’t even stand to look at him on TV anymore.
