It says nothing about the girls family and the boys Mom seems a bit over bearing at this point. Nothing about her family? Really? What about this little tidbit:
The boy's parents say they can provide a better upbringing for the baby than Crane can. Her household includes her stepfather, David L. Jacobs, who was convicted of domestic violence last year for hitting, choking and pointing a gun at Crane's 17-year-old sister and was placed on two years' probation, court records show.
But the boy's mom seems a bit over-bearing, so it's probably better to have the baby living with a convicted abuser.

I misread it I apologize.
I'm still not big on taking a child from their Mother. The sins of the father (step-father) are not the sins of the child (the Mother). The step-father can be dealt with, if he is violent he can be taken out of the picture. Which he should have been if the sister was a minor. Probation my a**, he should have done time.
This may be rape under the statute but also may have been consensual. A 15 year old does have reason and choice ... unless there is a mental impairment. Was he really taken advantage of? We don't know, the DA thinks so but then again what are 15 year old boys like. If the courts give the grandparents custody of the child, the boy still takes no responsibility.
This baby is now 2 years old. What has the environment been for the last two years. What kind of Mothers has Jane C. Crane been for the last two years. The boys parents may be stating the truth, then again they may not. I think the judge is the only one in possession if the facts and is best situated to make a decision. Our conjecture on the reporters story is just that ... conjecture. Having been an investigator I know there are more facts out there than we a privy too.
