Remember that Iranian ship that the Somali pirates seized? Yeah the same one where the pirates suddenly started experiencing blisters, hair loss and even death.
I speculated earlier that the reported symptoms were dangerously close to what one would expect from severe radiation poisoning. Apparently others are thinking the same thing:
Russian sources claim she was an enormous floating dirty bomb, intended to detonate after exiting the Suez Canal at the eastern end of the Mediterranean and in proximity to the coastal cities of Israel. The entire cargo of radioactive sand, obtained by Iran from China (the latter buys desperately needed oil from the former) and sealed in containers which, when the charges on the ship are set off after the crew took to boats, will be blasted high into the air where prevailing winds will push the highly dangerous and radioactive clout ashore.
Given the large number of deaths from the questing Somali pirates, it should be obvious that when the contents of the ship's locked cargo containers finally descended onto the land, the death toll would be enormous. The ship was nothing more nor less than the long-anticipated Iranian attack on Israel.
If true, this is not just an attack, it's a damn NUCLEAR attack!
The article implies that the cargo was rigged with massive explosives. If true, that is an act of war. Whether intended for Israel is irrelevant. It was intended for someone and that is an act of war.
Currently, the Americans, French and Russians are watching this ship and trying to figure out what to do.
Here's an idea. Tow it back to Iran under guard of a massive armada of warships. Dock it in Bandar Abbas (where all of Iran's refining capabilities are). Then inform "I'm a dinner jacket" that he has three days to unload the cargo. Failure to do so wwill result in a massive bombardment of the ship (on a particularly windy day).
That ought to kick the any hill a bit!
Anyone on FR have more info or insight on this?

Nice pirates.
I like your idea about towing and docking it at Bandar Abbas.
I’m confident “we” know what is on that ship, where it originated (was it really loaded in China and manned with an Iranian Rev Guard contingent? hmmm), who commissioned the operation and why... curious that it is not getting more press and the timing of the world financial blow-up in just weeks after this ship was seized... is too convenient for my consiracy-lovin’ mind.
Surely all traffic through the Suez would be under scrutiny for radioactivity-at some points the Canal is no wider than a couple of football fields. This part doesn’t make sense.
“Nice pirates.”

I know this has the makings of a great Clancy novel, but I haven’t been able to find any report that the initial report was proved erroneous.
There appears to be a complete international media blackout on the story.
“the timing of the world financial blow-up in just weeks after this ship was seized... is too convenient for my consiracy-lovin mind.”

That’s EXACTLY where my “curious mind” went as well. What I’m really wondering is if this turns out to be true, then does it mean that there could potentially be other “floating dirty bombs” in other ports around the world?
This could explain why this “crisis” seemingly came out of nowhere....a pre-emptive move to prepare the world economies for a major shock....multiple nuclear attacks in port cities in the US and Europe.
Hey, is it any crazier than what happened on 9/11?
Are they waiting until 0 is elected to continue the mission?
All 0’s buddies would be jumping with joy to see this happen. At the very least 0 would say call me if you need me.
“They will say or do anything now to create a crisis to get prices back up.”

Yep. And they have curiously dispersed their naval forces all over the place in the past few weeks....of course, only to “show off their strength” and only for “exercises”.
I beg to differ.
By the way, Russia is not the original source of the story at all. But they have confirmed that they have sent a brigade to the area to “deal with the pirates.” (But only with mention of the Ukrainian Faina, with the tanks on board, and no mention of the Iranian Deyanat.
Well, the idea that our govt was tipped off that a catastrophic event was prepositioned and waiting if the US did not capitulate to massive financial demands (and possibly, capitulate to the election of Obama, whom foreign powers no doubt find attractive, as a weak ineffectual vain gullible divisive fool) would explain a lot of things.
Including the horrified look on Bush’s face in the first public address on the crisis. He looked exactly like a man with a gun to his head. He had tears in his eyes.
Iran and Venezuela are the axis of evil oil.
I wonder - had the ship not been hijacked, would it have arrived near Israel around Roshhashana or Yom Kippur?
Better yet, point it towards an Iranian seaport, put the engines on full ahead and let it ground itself. They will be forced to unload it to move it. However, what is to prevent them from simply moving the stuff to another ship and trying again?
How would I locate these? I'd like to read more about this. This is the first I've heard of it. Curious.
What the heck can you do with a ship like that?
Blow it up somewhere? I cannot imagine a solution to this problem. Are the pirates still on it?
yes
I’m a little skeptical here. If this was meant to be a WMD attack, how likely is it that the crew would be so under-armed and helpless that a bunch of rag-tag Somali pirates could overpower it? And even if they did board, you’d think the Capt. could have given them an inkling of the mission, enough to have the Islamic pirates cheeringly sending them on their way.
