Trick or Treats for Everyone (Halloween Obama-style)
Vanity | 11/1/08 | 1curiousmind

Last night as our kids returned home from their annual tradition of trick or treating, we decided that it was now time to begin preparing them for the new America that Reid, Pelosi, and Obama will soon begin to shape.

I announced, "Okay, kids. Before you start to eat any candy, lets all get in a circle and pour out your bags in front of you."

Now Jason, our 14 year old, with over a decade of experience of this annual rite, had quite the loot. He had learned through experience the best route to maximize his take. He and a few of his friends had somehow managed to make it to over 100 homes. He returned home sweaty and exhausted, and was so proud of his successful evening.

Suzie, our 9 year old, had decided to stay with her dad and little brother Josh, only 6. Josh had a difficult time avoiding tripping on his Jedi robe and dropping his lightsaber. Plus, about a third of the homes were a little to "into it" and scared them both silly. So needless to say, they both had much less candy.

So, looking at the situation I felt that it was only fair that Jason give a portion of his candy to the other two. I mean, how much candy does one boy need? Plus, we just can't afford a big dental bill right now.

But I knew that if Jason was allowed to choose which candy to dole out, he would certainly choose the ones no one likes. Let's face it. He's as human as everyone else. So I determined to have them all push their individual piles into the center and then each one was allowed to pick a piece of candy in turn until the whole pile was redistributed.

Oh yeah, I also took a turn, every other round, taking a piece to stock up for next year's halloween, or in case of a candy emergency. They didn't understand why that was necessary but I just told them to trust me. I had information about the future availability of candy that they just weren't privied to.

In the end, both Josh and Suzie were pretty happy. Jason, however, kept complaining that it wasn't fair. That he had really worked hard and that this was his last year. As he stomped off into his room, upset and about to cry, I think I heard him mutter, "I'd rather live in the Soviet Union!" or something like that.

That's okay though. He's a typical teen with an attitude. Someday he'll understand that fairness requires sacrifice whether we like it or not.

Now...how can we handle Christmas? should be fun.

I used somewhat of the same scenario to demonstrate the different types of government to my daughter one year.

Democracy
Socialist
Totalitarian

Guess which one she liked best?

Too bad you didn’t film that operation and put it on YouTube, calling it perhaps, “Obama Economics for Children” or maybe “Dummies”.

I did the something similar with my 10-year-old daughter and her friend. When they dumped out their candy, I said wait a minute, we need to take some of your candy and give it to all the kids who didn’t bother to get in a costume and go trick or treating.

They said “No way! That’s their problem if they didn’t go out!”

I said, “Well, that’s what Obama wants to do with adults and their candy, which is money — take it from them and give it to someone who doesn’t deserve it.”

I got a surprising response: “Well that’s just not fair. Why can’t kids be president? That way that would never happen!”

This gave me hope for our future. If even 10-year-olds can immediately see the unfairness of Obama’s plans, I don’t think he has a chance on Tuesday.
