Ut oh: "Achieving social justice should be of greater importance than the purity of free markets. Markets, he argues, are themselves only possible through political guarantees of rights and the rule of law, and they should be subordinate to discussions of justice."

Sounds like something Krugman would say.
Not entirely accurate. Markets exist always and everywhere, under all possible conditions. In extreme conditions they are known as black markets.
But a "free market," in the sense we normally use the term, requires peace and rule of law to function.
As an example, they always had markets in Russia, even under Stalin. Those not controlled by the KGB and various bureaucratic cabals were controlled by the Russian Mafia. Nothing free about any of these markets.
Today in Russia they have markets. But they still aren't free, as they are still heavily influenced by government and mafia. There is no rule of law in Russia, so there is no real free market.
There is no free market in a condition of true anarchy, either, as force rules all and takes whatever it wants until it runs up against greater force.
Very well said! What a shame that most liberal commentators do not avail themselves of logic with any frequency...
From the article:
“All Americans-all citizens of the world, for that matter-have a right to a decent income, a good education, adequate health care, and freedom from economic domination.”
Interesting statement...meant to provoke unthinking sympathy and leaves out the essential responsibilities of citizens.
Overall, this article covers a lot of ground, including the liberal notion of controlling free speech too.
....And all of it connected with those people who are being chosen to surround Obama.
Now, Sunstein didn't say it, but I'm sure he thinks that the Leftists should be able to attend soul-stirring events like Tuesday's upcoming Triumph Of The Swill in order to expose them to "counter viewpoints"... **snicker**
See my post #6 about Fascist-boy’s book. The linked review is on Amazon.
Yes, indeedy. I read it and I am not at all surprised. I knew this before and I am one of those people who believes that the so-called “centrist” position that many are touting will be taken by this new “leader” will NOT be at all centrist.
Or until there is no more to take because the producers get no return for their efforts so they stop producing.
True enough. But the guys with the guns tend to be the last ones to starve.
